Kelley picked up her first guitar as a child. From a large bi-racial musical family, she learned the value of sharing music was more important than any material possession. After a series of tragic events, Kelley picked up the guitar again with a passion; playing for hours every day as a means of both survival and escape.
Kelleys influences include Joni Mitchell, Richie Havens, Jimi Hendrix and the great humanitarians Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.
Jen Major studied voice in college and has been singing with Kelley for several years. Jen also plays backing musical harmonies on the flute, as well as percussion including the shakers and tambourine.
Childhood friend of Kelley, multi-talented Erik Benoit, has a background including being a turntablist, poducer, and can play most musical instruments. This allows him to bring an amazing level of technical skill to his tight percussion beats.
Dave Coulter has been a long time musician, and plays the electric and upright bass for the band. We nicknamed him "The Hammer" for his thumping smooth playing style.
"What makes the music different is the spirit of it. It not only processes Kelley's own pain and joy through the songs; but in the purest sense Kelley seeks to help others heal from their suffering through the universal themes of her songs. Her music is lyric-driven folk; with driving beats and hooky melodies that are infectious; getting stuck in your head for hours after listening to them. In her songwriting, she is gifted and fearless. With a message of tolerance for all humanity, she fearlessly addresses such hot social issues as racism, sexual abuse and poverty."
It is important for us to connect with our fans because our music is authentic. Raw with no frills or false pretenses. With that honesty, it cuts through everything and connects us to people everywhere.
