One day in late 2007, Caitlin and Kelly were both at the same party. Caitlin was being her usual guitar-whiz self and Kelly asked her how to change from a G chord to a D chord and back. They had been friends for several years already, but had not had a musical relationship at this point. Caitlin showed her how, and things would never be the same.
Kelly was asked to lead worship at a New Year's Eve party held by the homeschool group of which she and Caitlin were members. Kelly agreed and asked her friend Andy to assist on guitar (as all Kelly could do at this point was switch from a G to a D and back). A few weeks later, they asked Caitlin to join them.
During a particular practice, Caitlin mentioned that she was working on a song called "Staircase" and played it. She also mentioned that she was working on an instrumental part for a song, but couldn't think of lyrics. Kelly happened to be working on her own song (having now learned a total of four chords), and showed the lyrics to Caitlin. Between the two of them, they completed the song ("Better Than This"), unwittingly beginning a musical partnership that would never quite go away.
They, along with Andy, led worship and presented their songs (Andy also wrote and performed a song called "Take a Knee"). As much fun as they had, they didn't really work together after that for some time.
In July of 2008, while at a Christian camp, Caitlin and Kelly teamed up again to play for their youth group ("Better Than This" and an original of Caitlin's called "The Letter"), and then for the entire camp (Five verses of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"). On one of the youth group nights, they and their youth leader had an impromptu "jam session". The two girls realized that they worked really well together and that they were drawn in the same direction artistically.
In August of 2008, at the book release for Stephenie Meyer's "Breaking Dawn", Caitlin asked Kelly if she wanted to do some more music together. Little did she know that Kelly was thinking of asking her the same thing.
They got together twice without much to show for it. Both girls were suffering an intense bout of artist's block, and it showed. It was during their third meeting when they had their first "real" practice. Caitlin had written "Stand", and Kelly had written "Invisible Man". They played and arranged and re-worked the songs for a long time, finally on the same page and ready to get started.
Since then, the girls have taken to writing their own biography in third person and insisting that everyone and their brother listen to their music.
Haha wow. Yeah I had a good weekend. I had to work yesterday morning but that was fine. Then my friend had a party for her birthday, and I had so much fun lol. Except I only got 4 hours of sleep because my friend was sick. So one of my friends and I were helping her out. And it's hard to function properly on 4 hours of sleep lol. It was good though. Loving the freedom lol.
I'm not entirely sure I'm going to continue with music, but I'm positive I'll continue with german. I actually work at the pint and slice, but I wasn't scheduled for yesterday evening so I decided to stop by. I'm also teaching piano privately as well as sweetwater academy of music. life's been intersting, that's for sure!

I think we ran into each other a couple of times between grade school and now, but I don't know how much we actually caught up. let's see...went to high school at concordia..hated it ^^ after concordia I spent a year in thailand as an exchange student. best and absolutely worst year of my life. came back and started double majoring in music and german at IPFW
