OTTAWA XPRESS Aug 05 "So much fun!... Kelly and his girls were a breath of fresh air, to say the least. Picture pop-ska meets drag-diva with a whole lotta raunch thrown in for fun. Kelly is a born entertainer, as long as you can handle occasional off-colour comments..."
OUT MAGAZINE (L.A.) March 2005 "...a horn-happy mélange of sweat and swagger infused with lounge lizard bravado. A true toast to the body and soul, Swing Swing is a swift-paced collection of songs that highlights vocalist Kelly Clipperton’s debonair delivery in pure swankiness."
CORG MAGAZINE (Vancouver) Feb 2005 "...This is really a party. The horns make it different. Now I'm thinking of bullfights. It's all about screwing and dancing and seduction. The lyrics are glossy and showy. R. Kelly (wait a sec...) Clipperton has a dreadfully low voice... not exactly what you'd expect out of him. It's sexy and growling."
He sings, he dances, he wisecracks, he acts…. And the music is high-energy, pitch-perfect and fun. Picture swing meets ska meets rock.
Highly entertaining, fashionably versatile and always amusing, R.Kelly Clipperton and his band Kelly and the Kellygirls unleashed the the black and blue bawdy burlesque of their sophomore album We love you, but not as Much as we love Ourselves in May 2006, a follow-up to 2004’s ‘swing swing’. The band completed a 27 date Canadian tour in the fall of 2006, followed by a Western Tour and UK Tour in the summer of 2007 with amazing reviews and audiences across the board.
..
Clipperton - though no stranger to the cycle of smug self-absorption - takes care (unlike so many) to look beyond the mirror. We Love You, But Not As Much As We Love Ourselves is a manic, theatrically charged paean to the crash and burn of desire in all its messy glory. In a modern twist of mischievous revelry, Clipperton, whose voice fiendishly croaks somewhere between Peter Murphy and Tim Curry, at times channels Ian Dury in sheer sweat-soaked bluster if not precise sonic gusto: the band create both a joyous and painful rumble, its subversive, ska-tinged swinging showstoppers soaring sky-high one second, only to wallow in the gutter with bitter bravado the next.
