    Clipperton - though no stranger to the cycle of smug self-absorption - takes care (unlike so many) to look beyond the mirror. His music is a manic, theatrically charged paean to the crash and burn of desire in all its messy glory. In a modern twist of mischievous revelry, Clipperton, whose voice fiendishly croaks somewhere between Peter Murphy and Tim Curry, at times channels Ian Dury in sheer sweat-soaked bluster if not precise sonic gusto: the band create both a joyous and painful rumble, its subversive, ska-tinged swinging showstoppers soaring sky-high one second, only to wallow in the gutter with bitter bravado the next.
