Eddie and I have been on the road so much for the past two months that I sometimes wonder if I am putting things in my suitcase or taking it out! At times we have just lived out of them rather than unpack, because we knew that we were about to take off again. It has been a summer of connections and reconnections for us.

Hi, America, do you hear me? Happy Birthday to you, my dear sweet love! Long long ago in the deepest Soviet times I used to celebrate your Birthday and now I’m doing the same, as well. We haven’t splendid parades and fireworks here in Latvia. Nevertheless, I have the sense that I’m indebted to you. It was you, America, who had taught me to understand the principles of democracy and human rights through the broadcasts of the Voice of America, Radio Liberty etc.! My dreams of freedom had came true. My native land Latvia had renoved its independence. For some years Latvia is a full- fledged member of NATO, EU etc. Now I’m teaching proudly to the people that we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. I belive, that my homeland Latvia will get rightful, strong and rich state through friendship to the US! My dear American friends, when you’ll celebrate the Indepandence Day, please, drink one glass to my helth too! Now I’m going to the kitchen to drink one small whiskey to the health of America!
