From as far back as I can remember, I have dreamed of becoming an actress and a singer. Born and raised in rural Tennessee, my family were all quite musically gifted, though none had ever sought fame and fortune.
My beloved father, Jim McGrath, was a football coach, teacher, and basically a natural at anything he pursued. A proverbial light in the room, he served as the biggest influence in my life. His untimely passing when I was eleven was the beginning of a trail of tragic losses and unfortunate obstacles I was challenged to overcome throughout my childhood. Broken and buried in sorrow, I desperately sought some way to endure and escape my pain. I channelled the adversity of my experiences and overcoming them, in writing and singing. All alone, I found comfort, strength and understanding in my prayers and in my songs.
Being virtually on my own since 11th Grade, I learned early to take care of myself prematurely and so, four years later, when I graduated from a local, private Christian University with a degree in Broadcasting, I knew I could accomplish anything I set my mind on. While in college, on my 20th birthday, I was divinely given a guitar, which I then taught myself to play. And all during my senior year in college, I found myself performing on stage just me and my guitar and it was there, like a beacon of light, I realized that I had found my true calling
So shortly after graduation, I moved myself to Memphis. I lived there for a year, writing and performing in the city’s numerous blues clubs. Feeling the need to spread my wings, I moved on to Nashville for three hard-but-enlightening years, which took me from a hard working amateur to a hungry professional.
Though Nashville is one of the music capitals of the world, I once again found my ambitions yearning for broader and more varied opportunities. So I held another garage sale and headed west to the City of the Angels. Now, two years later, I’m still reaching for my higher self, and along the way, I try to be a proverbial light shining through a window of peace and love to all... especially the many other talented people out there on similar journeys.
Pleased to meet you--thanks so much for being friends! Perhaps we'll meet for real at a show sometime soon. All the best 'til then!
