HEY THERE, I'M A WRITER OF THE MTV BOOKS GRAFFITI GIRL, AND INVISIBLE TOUCH TO BE RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER 2008. HERE ARE SOME QUICK FACTS ABOUT ME...

? Unfortunately, I am not a graffiti artist. I tried the style back in HS, and failed miserably, but I always admired the bold style so I decided to write about a girl graf artist in training. :O)

? I have a background in art and graphic design.

? I interview authors in my Words of an Author column and the YA Fresh blog, and have launched the Latina YA blog. Really, I'm not all that busy. Riiiight.

? I'm Mexican, Filipino, Italian. People often try to guess my nationality. "What are you??" is a real ice breaker at parties.

? Remember Otis from Superman? I met him once. Yep, I know his real name, too. :)

? In case you're interested, my next book, titled INVISIBLE TOUCH, will be out October 14, 2008. It's about a girl, a blog, and her sixth sense...

? I like Snicker bars.

About me:

KELLY PARRA is a Mexican-Filipino-Italian writer. Through her teen years, her nationality was many times a guessing game by new acquaintances and today she often writes her multicultural characters with the same experiences. She debuted into young adult fiction with the Latina novel GRAFFITI GIRL, a Latinidad top pick in 2007. Her next novel is the YA contemporary paranormal, INVISIBLE TOUCH, and will be released in the fall of 2008.

Kelly currently lives somewhere in between dreamland and her hometown in Central Coast California. When not pulling her hair while writing her current novel, she likes to play with her abundance of websites and feed a serious television addiction.

Visit her website, www.KellyParra.com.

Do you believe in fate?

Kara Martinez has been trying to be "normal" ever since the accident that took her father's life when she was eleven years old. She's buried the caliente side of her Mexican heritage with her father and tried to be the girl her rigid mother wants her to be--compliant and dressed in pink, and certainly not acting out like her older brother Jason. Not even Danielle, her best friend at Valdez High, has seen the real Kara; only those who read her anonymous blog know the deepest secrets of the sign seer.

2008 RITA FINALIST: Young adult & Best First Book!

Graffiti art. It's bold. It's thrilling. And it can get a girl into serious trouble...

Raised by her single mom (who's always dating the wrong kind of man) in a struggling California neighborhood, Angel Rodriguez is a headstrong, independent young woman who channels her hopes and dreams for the future into her painting. But when her entry for a community mural doesn't rate, she's heartbroken. Even with winning artist Nathan Ramos--a senior track star and Angel's secret crush--taking a sudden interest in Angel and her art, she's angry and hurt. She's determined to find her own place in the art world, her own way.

"Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their ideals. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair."

-- Douglas MacArthur, General

Ms. Kelly, A thought from a friend, for a friend. "Have you stopped to consider that it's life's "disconnects," "almosts," and "not quites," my friend, that make life's "connections," "gotchas," and "eurekas" so fantastically romantic? Good, because they were your idea." Thanks for being you, I'm sure, someone's day, is better because of you. Robert Foster
