Throw the melodies and harmonies of the 60s up in the air, smash them into submission with the full-on attack and energy of punk, add a distinctive vocal style a la Costello or Tilbrook, and you have Kelly's Heels. Led on guitar and vocals by Bob Kelly, supported by the ferocious drumming of Jim Kimberley and the groovy bass lines of Isobel Morris, the band has a live show you can't afford to miss.
Though you can hear the influences of the British greats The Beatles, The Kinks, The Who in the music, the band blends those influences into a mix that is both highly contemporary but also timeless, producing a rich variety of stunning songs. Whether it's the energy and punkish swagger of Decide, or the heart-rending poignancy of the ballad It Wasn't Me, It Wasn't You, the versatility of Bob Kelly's songwriting is a revelation.
Londoner Bob Kelly formed his first band with classmates at school in England at the age of 9. His first band The Ashes gigged regularly around London playing a fast-and-furious brand of post-punk power pop. Following a band name change to Kelly's Heels, Bob met Jim Kimberley, whose ability to match and, in some cases, challenge, on drums the relentless pace set by Bob on guitar, has led to a positive creative partnership. The addition of the beautiful Isobel Morris on bass and backing vocals completes the line-up.
The band currently have a new album, Neither Use nor Ornament, pressed for release, so check out the website for track details.
CDs available from CD Baby, Not Lame, amazon, etc and digital downloads from iTunes, emusic, Rhapsody, GreatIndie, and many more!
The versatile Mr Kelly has also recently provided guitar contributions to the BBC3 comedy series Thieves Like Us, and will also soon be heard on backing vocals on the forthcoming new Rinaldi Sings album.
Ya' missed a good one because you don't accept html. And yet we sympathize with your plight, since our page too is completely cluttered with useless html garbage.
In any case, remember kids, as Dick "Mr. Potter" Cheney says: "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets waterboarded!"
Happy Holidays, and we hope you're having a wonderful life in your very own Bedford Falls--Your good pals, The Mockers
Mr Kelly!! Mr Kelly!! (tugs at hem of jacket) I got your albumen and it is fabulose. It is way perky and horribly fun. I'm playing it at America to frighten it into reason. The shirt is also very rubbery and allows me to scale large buildings. Tremendous.
Hi Bob--Very difficult time in San Diego this week. The music community already has some benefit gigs lined up. Be on the lookout for some CDs as well.
I plan to volunteer this week. No colleges are open at the moment--thus no work.
We have a great singer-songwriter from San Diego currently touring the UK. Her name is Jane Hui. Catch her show if you have the opportunity.
Just thought we'd drop in to see what kinda condition your condition was in, and to hear some of your real fine brand of indie pop. I must say, "Someone Somewhere" is an absolutely fascinating piece of pop. It's bright, upbeat, catchy and infectious! The pulsating rhythm and harmonies have a hypnotic quality to it that keeps me hooked! The chorus and lyrics are excellent. Equally strong is "Twitch." I love the sound and energy. The sound is great. Keep it up!
Lotsa Vegas love your way, Alex (for Roy and Debbie) Poppermost
PS, I really love how your surnames run opposite to your gender - that surely can't have been deliberate! Kelly, Kimberly and Morris? Two girls and a bloke surely? ;)
