Teetering in the balance between uplifting and heartbreaking, Kelsey Rottiers’ fresh and real compositions invite you to walk along with her on the path to the water’s edge. With lyrics born out of a heart that's both vulnerable and strong, songs like “In the Rising Tide” echo with choirs singing “I’ll be wading in the water.” Kelsey Rottiers & the Rising Tide’s music marries folk and indie instrumentation with pop melodies that will stick with you long after the show. They joined ranks officially last January, 2009, using the song’s severe and redemptive images as their collective identity. However, the project had been forming for about seven years before they adopted the title. Kelsey, the lyricist and vocalist and Derek Turcsanyi, background vocalist and altogether musical scaffolding, have been friends since 2002 when Derek started teaching Kelsey guitar lessons. Most of the lessons turned into a jam session or perfecting a song where both could play and sing counterparts. In December, 2008, when Kelsey finished her Bachelor’s in Music and moved home, it was easy to pick right back up where they started, performing wherever and whenever they could. A graduate of the Contemporary Music Center on Martha's Vineyard and Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kelsey has ten years of professional singing and songwriting experience and training. Along with Derek’s fifteen years of experience, the duo is hard to deny. They are currently in the process of recording a new album, Red Wonder Boots, for a late 2010 release.
