The Kelvingrove Free Music Festival, sponsored by Radio Clyde, was started in 1976 by John McCalman and was the ideal showcase for Glasgow's unsigned musical talent, running yearly until the late '80's.

HIYA - JUST DROPPING BY TO WISH YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE A GREAT WEEKEND! HOPE ALL'S WELL! JUST THINKING THAT SURELY THE OLD BAND-STAND DESERVES THIS CAMPAIGN TO GET SOME LOTTERY FUNDING OR SOMETHING IN ORDER TO SAVE SOMETHING THAT IS VERY SPECIAL TO GLASGOW - AND THEN GET A NEW FESTIVAL TO OPEN IT UP ONCE MORE!!! WISHFUL THINKING I KNOW - BUT IT MAKES YOU SAD DON'T IT!
A few great days spent up there, one of the most memorable being the 1st or 2nd Punk festival in the mid to late eighties watching Tribe of Benn in their heyday. There was some tracks
on their Myspace page recorded on the Clyde mobile the last time I looked. cheers, DP
How superb to see the old place once again. Happy to be your friend of course. Thanx for the add. Would be excellent to see the place up and running again, bit of Glasgow music history that would be saved.
Love the pics and the page! I remember once coming up to the festival one year when I was much too young to appreciate the good music on offer!!! Would love to see it return. Its sad seeing the old bandstand in that condition!!!!
