KEN G (jazz saxophonist & composer)
KEN G was born in Yamaguchi, Japan in 1967. Inspired by Sadao Watanabe, He began studying saxophone at age fourteen and was giging at the local jazz club in Yamaguchi all through high school.
In 1986, after graduation, KEN G moved to Tokyo and switched to tenor sax, studying under Takao Uematsu, the wizard of the Japanese jazz music world.
In 2005 and 2007, he played at the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival with San Murata Trio.
KEN G's playing style is commonly called "Japanese Joe Henderson", a style with great flexibility that makes him an all round player. KEN G has made this style his own and his sound will surely move his co-players and audiences everywhere.
KEN G's "G" means gravity.

KEN G テナーサックス・ソプラノサックス奏者
1967年山口市出身。中学２年の頃独学でアルトサックスを始める。山口高校在学中、山口市のジャズスポット「ポルシェ」にてセッションを重ねる。高校を卒業後上京し、音楽学校に２年間在籍。'88年頃ジョー・ヘンダーソンの演奏に影響されテナーに転向し、日本ジャズ界の鬼才・植松孝夫氏に師事。'89年より自己のバンドで「新宿ピットイン」を中心にライブ活動を開始。'91年ＮＨＫ-ＦＭ「セッション'91」に自己のバンドで出演し全国的に知られる。板橋文雄、市川修、山本剛、日野皓正、エディ・ゴメス、ジミー・コブ、ランディ・ジョンストンなど国内外の有名アーティストとも多数共演。
'05年、'07年、'09年にカナダのToronto Jazz FestivalでSAN MURATA TRIOにゲスト出演するなど北米にも進出。'06年～'08年トロントやニューヨークで録音したＣＤを４枚リリースし、ジャズ雑誌などの高い評価を受ける。
現在福岡市在住。豊かな音色と幅広い音楽性と兼ね備え、自己のユニットのほか様々なユニット・セッションで北海道から沖縄まで全国的に活動を展開している。ＮＨＫ全国放送、ＮＨＫ福岡、ＦＭ福岡、ＮＨＫ山口、山口放送、山口朝日放送、ジャズフェスタ山口、Street Art-plex KUMAMOTO、春日市ふれあい文化センター音楽家派遣事業・音楽の玉手箱、アクロス福岡シンフォニーホールなどのメディア・イベントにも多数出演。
以前は名字も入れた「清水ケンＧ」としていましたが、現在はシンプルにアルファベットのみの表記「KEN G」で活動しております。ちなみにKEN GのGはGravity(重力)。
