I am a solo artist and play all the instruments on my studio recordings.
For live shows, I use a Boss RC-2 loopstation as a looper, a Breedlove acoustic guitar and a Line6 Variax 700 electric guitar through a Pod XT Live. All loops are real-time and no prerecorded tracks are ever used. It's been described as "very big sound" for a solo band. Come see for yourself.
Influences
In no particular order...
Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Steve Morse, Tim Reynolds, David Bowie, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Mick Ronson, Mick Ralphs, Mick Rogers, Al Dimeola, Tommy Emmanuel, Ben Harper, Dave Beegle, Richard Thompson, Acoustic Alchemy, Gomez, Kevin Gilbert, Tom Petty, Leo Kottke, Gary Moore, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, Pete Townsend, Todd Rundgren, Todd Snider, Leslie West, Jack Johnson, Eric Johnson, Monte Montgomery... and still growing!
Ken K is a songwriter, performer and guitar instructor residing in Denver, Colorado, USA. He plays contemporary roots rock that encompasses numerous classic and modern influences. Something like Tom Petty, Ryan Adams and Leo Kottke playing together at an open stage.
Armed with a looper and his acoustic and electric guitars, he cultivates a big sound as a solo band in a live performance setting. He also fronts the Ken K Vibe band with Jeff Norman on bass and George Sassano on drums.
Ken draws influence from many of the great songwriters - Beatles, Stones, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, supplemented with great guitar work reminscent of Leo Kottke, Jimmy Page (acoustic) and Dave Mason. Stylistically diverse, his music moves easily from engaging instrumentals to captivating ballads and on into flat-out rocknroll. He showcases frequently in the Rocky Mountain songwriter community.
WELL YOU HAVE MANY INFLUENCES....BUT YOU ARE ONE OF MY BIGGEST INFLUENCES...KEEP IT UP KEN!!!!!"DEUCE" JAMMIN IN THE TRAILER IN POST FALLS IDAHO.....SOMEDAY ME N MIKE WILL SEND YA ONE FOR COMMENT.....SONG THAT IS ....PEACE BRO!
mics for drum...uggghhhh, yeah your right. I just sold off some crap on ebay for that purpose. Got a good deal from the GCpro guy yesterday. 3 sennheiser 609s for the toms (these are for guitar too) and a shure beta 52 for the kick or bass guitar. I already have a rode nt4 for the overheads....again, ran out of money so I'm still shy of the sm57 for snare and hats. That and a rode NKT and I should be well on my way. I'm wresling with my monitoring setup right now though...itching to do some test runs.
Soon bro...real soon! Needs a few finishing touches and some serious sound damping treatment but it's almost there. I'm hanging out in L.A. this week at the HQ. Good to see everyone. It's been 10 months since my last trip.
I'll check in soon when I get back to texas.
I really do want you to see the studio...it's turning out way nicer than I ever expected.
thanks for adding me. You probably don't remember me, we meet a couple summers back. My boyfriend t the time and I came to several of your shows in Morrison and Evergreen. I use to come on Sunday and work on my homework sitting on the patio drinking margaritas! lol Any ways, I agree your music is perfect to chill with on a beautiful day-- I bought your cd Highway 99 from iTunes yesterday.
Take care and I'll be out soon to hear yo live again :)
