Alien Left Hand -- What the critics say:

"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine

“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew

"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun.

It is part of The Fringe actually. He's actually got quite a good run from 31st July to 25th August, with the last 5 shows with the full quartet. The rest are with percussionist Adriano Adewale, so it should be sweet. Thursday and Friday (this week) are preview shows too, so £5 entry - can't beat that.

To my shame, I have not seen as much at the Jazz & Blues festival as I should have - I did see Courtney Pine back in 2002 and then Chick Corea in 2006. Sadly Messers Patitucci and Weckl were not there, but Frank Gambale did happen to be in the vicinity and joined the band onstage for a few numbers.

Apologies... a red herring, unfortunately. He was scheduled to play the liquid rooms on 14th August, but has since cancelled, gah. I may just be inclined to get tickets for the RCH show too. I seen Tom Waits last night (if he's your bag?) and have tickets for Antonio Forcione on Friday.
