    Ken took a "sabbatical" from music in 2008, but now he is BACK: rejuvenated and focused to begin the next phase of his singing career - and gearing up for his 20th anniversary in the music business, which he will celebrate in 2010. Voted "Best Vocalist" two years running by readers of The San Antonio Current, Ken Slavin is steadily garnering national and international attention with his beautiful new CD, "I'll Take Romance." In addition to substantial airplay in San Antonio, the disc has debuted in Italy, Portugal, Poland, France and Argentina. Some folks compare Ken to a younger Tony Bennett or Johnny Hartman. One reviewer dubbed him “Mr. Tuxedo Voice.” Texas Monthly says he’s one of the “Swing Set.” In reality, his voice, persona and performance style -- and commitment to NEVER being a "sound-alike" singer of standards -- put him in a category all his own. A late bloomer who began singing when he was nearly 30, he has worked hard to make up for lost time and has earned a reputation as one of the Lone Star State's most popular and gifted entertainers. Slavin is not trying to sing like it's 1940; he simply sings, letting the emotional weight of every word, either lovelorn laments or unrestrained giddiness, leap from his silky throat. The musicianship is crisp and engaging. "Alone" features seductive saxophone from Pierre Poree while "Come Rain or Come Shine" delivers Kevin Hess' most robust drum work. The production is top-of-the-line, placing Slavin's vocals in front of the mix; on "Thoughts of Your Smile (Manha de Carnaval)," it almost sounds like Slavin is whispering in your ear. Slavin has taken these heavily aged tunes and made them his own, free from any imitation.
