"Ken Spivey is the cat's pajamas. Not only does he have awesome stage presence, but his music will stick with you like sweet caramel sticks in your teeth, leaving a delicious memory for your brain to keep tasting for many nights to come" Orianna Kurrus, Fashion Designer/Artist - 9/11/07 www.oriannastudios.com
"Time Can Be So Cruel," sings local folk-pop artist Ken Spivey. Generally, yeah, it's a bitch, but it's looking pretty good for him. Greg Caracci, Orange Magazine - 11/22/06
"'I'm like a guy you talk to at the end of the bar who tells you about all his bad relationships. Only I have a guitar." TBT interview with Ken - 10/29/04
"Spivey mixes a clichéd but pretty cool proto-rock/rockabilly vibe with lo-fi drum-machine beats and self-consciously clever lyrics. The result is novel enough, and a tune like "Sexy Hairdresser" would sound just fine in the middle of one of WMNF's afternoon drive-time programs...." The Weekly Planet - 9/29/04
"Good, old fashioned pub rock..." John Ferguson, Empire Nightclub (Ybor City) - 5/3/06
"...the most entertaining band in Tampa!" Karen Lowman, Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse - 6/8/06
"The Ken Spivey Band, Songwriting from the vein of Bob Dylan" Jeremy Joseph, Natura Cafe - 6/13/06
"The Ken Spivey cd, "Time Can Be So Cruel," is one of the most amazing pieces of local music I've ever heard. If it were not for the way the cd was packaged I would of thought that this was a professionally done cd. He starts out strong with Sexy Hairdresser and at no point does he ever let down with that energy. Just hearing some of the songs he plays on album make you want to get up dance along with it. It has its slower moments such as with the title track and you can hear the emotion that he throws into the music there. This is one cd I could honestly see myself listening to with a group of friends on any occasion. Just got with a girlfriend? It's kicking. Just broke up with a girlfriend? It will console. Just turned gay? Play Feminine Side as a coming out song. There is not a bad track on this cd albeit the cd is rather short (my only complaint) Highly recommended. I can't wait to hear more from Ken Spivey.
Standout tracks! - All of them" Leigh Armstrong DJ @ WBUL 1620AM - Fall 2004
"never thought I'd be the girl in the crowd the singer looks at" Megan - Berkley, Michigan
Hey Mr. Spivey Spivey Spivey Spiffy Singer Man!!!!! I was singing that little ditty as I was writing it...can you imagine!!! I'm doing fine here in the land of spices and crap that FLOATS when it rains during the monsoons instead of washing away. Life is NEVER boring and I can only pray that we (Raj and I) can come back to America soon. I've seen India top to bottom and I must say HOT RUNNING WATER is amazing and I want it in my life MORE OFTEN...I miss America. Anyone who talks CRAP about America and lives there should get out more often so they can REALLLLLLLLLLLY UNDERSTAND what it means to live in the GREATEST country in the world...even with all the problems. At least I've never been attacked by RATS as large as midgets in restaurants in America.(YES THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY and I screamed like a little girl). The rat ran into the kitchen after I screamed...the workers only smiled...I...did not.Well now I can cause I haven't come down with any kind of HORRIBLE disease from the little furry friends...I'm a vegetarian here as well...you just never know man.Ok this is long enough...peace be with you and enjoy hot showers always!!!
Well congrats on getting a day off from things! You feel better and get some rest. And yes...bad decisions...mainly with my friend Jack...He's part of the Daniel's crew of miscreants... XD
Sorry we couldn't make it. We were at John Levique and at around two o'clock I made some stupid decisions that kinda made us go back home and had me sleep...How was the show?
