From the porches of The Misssissippi Hill Country and straight to the stage, Kent Burnside and The New Generation have mastered the raw emotion and rhythms of the Mississippi hill country blues, passed down from Kent's blood line. Sweet as a Mississippi sunset after the rain. The Blues live on with Burnside family.

Kent Burnside admits he is a country boy. With his independent release of past year's Cotton Field Disco and Country Boy City Dreams and his newest, Evil, Kent Burnside is bringing his new generation of blues to the world. Kent has toured and supported his grandfather R.L. Burnside (Fat Possum Records) and many other greats, such as Buddy Guy, North Mississippi Allstars, Jimbo Mathus and Junior Kimbrough just to name a few. His family name defines the unique Hill Country Blues sound created by his legendary grandfather, the late R.L. Burnside. However, Kent is taking it to another level. There’s no doubt it’s in his blood with the influences of his uncle, Duwayne Burnside (2006 Handy Award Nominee) and his cousin Cedric Burnside (2009 Handy Award Winner) being well established blues musicians in their own right.
As family being a top priority in his life, Kent claims two families. The other being his band, “The New Generation” with Jacob Best on drums and Emmett Butts on bass guitar, along with many others who sit in and help out (Gabe Meyers, Rich Wilcox, Ray Snyder, Dan Burnside and Gary Burnside).Fronting their unique style of rock based electric blues. A sound many have commented, “sounds like R.L. with a new modern groove.” Kent admits while growing up, he saw his grandfather play guitar along with many of his friends without a pick and simply figured that’s the way you do it. Kent has created his own formula maintaining the true Hill County sound in his music.
“The New Generation has a raw sound… not just mimicking those who have come before.” Anthony, Moser, Buddy Guy’s - Legends
“… their funky infusion of deep Delta Blues, Soul and gritty Americana.” Rebecca Thoreson - The Telluride Watch
Kent Burnside is his music… he is real… he is country… and well seasoned even while being amidst other members of his multi talented family. Kent stands alone and on his own with the next generation to listen and enjoy.
Kent is taking juke joint music to a whole new level. Kent Johnson Burnside should not be missed by any Blues fan

Kent, It was nice to meet you at the festival last week. I've posted 7 albums of photos from the DBF 09...check 'em out. Use/abuse any you like. If you don't like anything, let me know and I'll pull them. My camera battery died right before CeDell went onstage so I don't have any of the rest of Saturday night performances including yours but you are in other shots. mb
