There must be a couple of hundred from Andrea Cooper and Mark Roberts in Seattle, and Cat Fox in Seattle, to Pat Fitzgerald and Robin Dale Ford in Fairbanks, to Eric Graves and Tom Hart and Bob Bell (that's his singing on Black-Eyed Susie!) in Fairbanks, to Charlie Hunt and Lynn Basham and Richard Schoen and Joe Karson and Phil Cassel and Pete Bowers and also the Rosie Creek String Band in Fairbanks, to David McCormick and others in Anchorage, to Jim and Martha Stey and Tom Paul in Juneau, to Len Feldman in Haines, to Scott Pearce in Skagway, to Ned and Tia in Portland, to Ray Bierl and Erik Pearson in the Bay Area, to Barb Hansen all over the West Coast, to Barb and Andy and Paul and Joe and Walter in Southern California, to Jim McConnell in Tucson, Rus Bradburd in Las Cruces, Aaron Parrett in Montana, Michael Woods in Colorado, Norbert Sarsfield in Iowa, Eric Lind and Pop Wagner in St. Paul, John Fabke in Wisconsin, Jordan Wankoff in Chicago (along with WABOLABR, which includes Angela Bowman, Elizabeth Lamberti, and Clayton Brown), Jeff Miller in St. Louis, Jerry Hagins in Austin, Mitch Reed in Lafayette, Hogie Siebert in Breaux Bridge, Doug Berch in Michigan, Mark Ward in Ohio, Matt McElroy and Tim Peacock in Athens, Hilarie Burhans in Athens, Doug Van Gundy in West Virginia, Mark Tamsula and Don Shean in Western PA, and dozens and dozens more--I'm heading East and South with the names here . . .
Influences
All those revivalist old-time bands I've been listening to since the early 80's, when I started on the fiddle in Carrboro NC--locals like the old Red Clay Ramblers, and the Fuzzy Mountain String Band that predated them. Then there was that Seattle scene in the mid-80's when I moved there--big parties in big houses, folks like Sandy Bradley--and then it was up to Alaska and getting inspired by Scotty Meyer and Fiddling Wolf. Fiddle Tunes week in Port Townsend certainly helped. Now I've been making the trip to Clifftop. And, oh yeah, it doesn't hurt to be spending lots of time in Louisiana.
Sounds Like
