Jazz is a language, we just do our best to speak it...
The Kerry Hoffman Jazz Trio was formed by trombonist Kerry Hoffman in late 2006. After playing with several other accomplished musicians for years, Kerry felt the need to branch out and experiment with his own group. After performing with percussionist Ryan Barclay since his undergraduate years and with Neil Dreger since summer of 2006, Kerry knew that these two guys would be the perfect fit for what he was looking for. With 99% of other jazz groups being led by either a saxophone or trumpet, Kerry chose to take a risk and use his trombone playing ability to be the forefront of his ensemble. Though he also plays trumpet and flugelhorn on his gigs, trombone is the main flavor that you will immediately hear from the KHJT. Believing that this characteristic sets the KHJT apart from almost every other jazz group in town, the KHJT enjoys the reactions and reviews that they recieve at their shows. Comments such as "wow, I've never seen a trio led by a trombonist before!" reinstate the fact that the KHJT is truly in a catagory all by themselves. Outside of Kerry's horn playing, bassist Neil Dreger and percussionist Ryan Barclay provide one of the tightest and cleanest pockets anywhere. Whether it's setting up the groove on a funk tune, walking straight ahead, or being the featured soloist, these two guys are some of the best around. Overall the KHJT provides a sound that cannot be heard anywhere else. We invite you to check us out at one of our gigs. You won't be disappointed. Thanks for stopping by, and check back often for everything to do with the Kerry Hoffman Jazz Trio.
I really like the Grinion stuff, very cool. Hope the CD release went well. Gonna have to get me a copy. Maybe we can do a swap. Hope to have a CD in a month (knock on wood)
it's only NOT on there because I haven't updated THAT part of myspace since I started using it. now, then do you have some christmas music i can add to my page?
It takes some chops to pull off a trombone/bass/drums trio and i think you did it. Its risky but if the players are top notch it works. Best of luck to you!
My recital went really well! I got it recorded so I'll make you a copy if you would like. I'm going home this weekend but like next week or something we should get together and catch up! You going home for Thanksgiving?
We had American Songbook last night, which was a ton of fun. I told the drummer that I know you! haha He said you guys are playing this Friday? Lemme know the details and maybe I can stop on the way home! Hope everythings going great for you! :D
hey, yah it has been awhile since I've been home at the center. Roberts is great though, I'm having a lot of fun. The girls on my floor and I went to a barn dance tonight, it was awesome. I hope you guys are doing well. Tell Emily I say hi. -Kate
We're still workin' on it, but it's coming out awesome. I had to get a new board player, so that was a bit of a set back. We should be able to finish up in one more session. How are things with you?
Kerry.... what can I say... thanks soooo much for performing in Rochester at my wedding. Gretchen and I love you guys and we're so glad you played. We got many great comments about your sound and of course people danced (what more can I say?!). It was kind of cool to combine half of the Hoffman Group with the other half of the Bennett Group. See you soon man!
My lips are up to it, and would rock the house. I play just about every weekend with Nik, so my chops are definitely there. Mike T has been telling me when you guys play, but I haven't had a weekend off in a while. Congrats on the group though, you Sean and Bennett seem to be doing a lot with your music, and I'm happy for you guys. TTYL
hey, sorry to be getting back to ya so late but life has been a little crazy lately with work and all. its fun though and def been a great summer. how're things going for you? sounds like your having fun playing
Hey man! Thanks so much for playing at the fest! you guys are sounding tighter than ever. Great sound! I'll email you some pics we took. And we'll definitely book you guys next year.
What's going on man! I'm managing over @ Bodhi's Café & Lounge now and I'm looking for musicians to play. Mike T reminded me that you guys might be interested. This week is friggin nuts for me..but we'll chat! Cheers.

Re: Word of the Week
WORD OF THE WEEK (6/3-6/10) IS "GRAVY"
adj.
1. A word used for "it's good, great or delicious."
2. Something that is without hassle or without a problem.
The word gravy is most often used with laid back undertones and usually is not used to describe something exciting or in an exclamatory way.
A college student might say: "Only one more exam to go, so the rest of this semester will be gravy."
Keepin'the words and tunes flowin'for ya. Thanks for commin' with me to my new page! - Jake Glasgow (Mister G)
