Kessie J Griffin was born Janurary 13, 1988 on the tropical island of Honolulu Hawaii. Darlene (mother) says “Kessie’s been moving her shoulders to the beat of music since before she could walk. She even sang with passion at age 3 as if she really understood the meaning of the music” After Hawaii young Kessie fled to Rota, Spain where she was introduced to her spanish side and adapted to the culture for a short period.Constantly around a music loving family Kessie was easily influenced. From the circles of “hand clapping” music in south Spain to oldies like Teena marie, Luther Vandros, and Sade, She grew up with an open minded ear. Her mother and father constantly moving place to place for family and military purposes, she ended up starting middle school in Temecula, Ca.There Kessie began to write songs and melodies that really only made sense to her. She could only write what she felt and experienced which at that age (11,12)wasn’t a lot, but she knew it sounded good. As time progressed Kessie taught herself creativity, writing patterns, sound, and bar count. Just by listening and feeling music. Her grandmother tried teaching her the piano, but she couldn’t respect the step by step instructions, so she listened, played, and literally taught herself. In the beginning stages of highschool, Kessie discovered a musical benefit. Per Kessie “I was roaming circuit city and came across a software that let me create beats, record my vocals, and burn the final copy to disc. I quickly made songs with sixteen bar versus and eight bar hooks. I sold 10 track cd’s of myself around campus for $5 a cd and made about $60+-.” The talented entrepreneur was then motivated when she saw others were interested. After graduating highschool Kessie continued with this software and her love for expressing music. Hanging around Los Angeles, Ca, Kessie met a friend/artist . While they were riding the streets of Sunset and Hollywood Kessie popped her CD in the car. Her friend immediately suggested “someone in the industry must hear this!” From there they moved to Atlanta, Ga where Kessie would begin her career. She was introduced to a real studio with engineers, producers, and other various artists. There, Kessie wrote music with producers like Kochease (producer for young joc) , DJ Monte from Oomp Camp, Ced solo, and many others. She made her first collab with rapper Gucci Mane that was never released. Things became rocky in Atlanta, forcing Kessie to explore other options. She packed up her belongings, threw them in her car, and drove back to California, this time residing in Hollywood, Ca. Hollywood is Kessie’s home today. Shes currently working with various producers, photographers, etc. She is now ready for the next step. Per Kessie “I must let my presence be known”
