A protrusion. A flabbergasted wandering up and down grassy hills. Air conditioning. Visits to diners overshadowed by scholastic anxiety. All the lost pens and pencils money can buy.
Ketchup Fart is a continuation, more or less, of Green Uvula, the solo project of Garrett Johnson since the age of thirteen. Green Uvula is in a state of hibernation at the moment. Rather than foregoing its rite of slumber in a cave, Green Uvula has actually chosen to sleep in a Heinz bottle that sports the image of the wrinkled face of a nun on its backside. What you are hearing now is the sound of that bottle being squeezed by a Waffle House patron.
The first tune, titled "Sticky Honey Atoms," is the result of an on and off tweaking. It exercises and exorcises inner demons. Most of it was recorded during the fall of 2005, but new and finishing touches were made the following winter and in late May of 2006. Also in the fall of 2005, it was performed live twice by Carrot Eaters, which is the collaborative recording project of Nick Wilson and Garrett Johnson, involving many others in the live ensemble and the sometimes the recording process as well. Those performances featured balalaika, kazoo, prerecorded pounding percussion, and featured violinist Shaina Kapeluck. The recorded version, however, utilizes keyboard calculator, Yamaha Boorgeroni Keys, and assorted percussion from underneath Garrett's room mate's bed.
"Amphetamine Tarot Cards Meet the Dan Rather Skyline" is a dialogue on the place of politics in the realm of Fluoride.
"Don't Puke on Your Placemat" is a romp through beer stained smoke stack upstairs bars, juxtaposed with summer bus rides.
With the help of a voice sampler and Travis Hallenbeck's digital four track, "Fingernail in Vogue" places a Swannanoa local in the seat of international stardom.
Garrett Johnson writes song lyrics and does lead vocals for the band Carrot Eaters. Also, he plays keyboard for the band Warm Erasers.
