Kevin Murphy

Hi, I'm Kevin Murphy, State Representative for Pennsylvania's 113th District. My candidacy is based on open government, responsible leadership and a sincere desire to do the right thing for all the people of my district.

There has been a groundswell of support in recent years for sweeping reforms to change the way our elected leaders conduct the people's business. One of my goals is to make these changes a reality. The voters who elect our officials not only expect but deserve to know exactly what our elected officials are doing on their dime.

After I take office in December, I will begin providing you regular updates on kev4rep.com on my progress in Harrisburg. I will also document, and make publicly available, all of my expenses so that you always know what I am doing on your dime.

I talked a lot about the importance of accessibility and accountability during my campaign. These were some of the key elements of my campaign platform and I fully intend to follow through with them, as promised.

My commitment will be to the people of the 113th District, not to special interest groups, and it will reflect the diversity of the entire electorate. Some elected official seem to think they should only represent one demographic of their electorate. A real leader represents all constituents equally. This idea is not typical in mainstream politics, but it's an idea I believe in. I think it will help me make the right decisions for all of the people of the 113th District.

More than ever, we need to stay on top of critical issues such as elementary education, secondary education and accessibility to a college education for everyone and at a reasonable cost. The rising cost of college tuition, overly-complicated PHEAA loan programs and absurd interest rates make a college degree nearly unaffordable for all but the wealthy.

Senior citizens in particular in PA are struggling to pay their heating bills and property taxes. They are experiencing ever increasing costs of living while, at the same time, they are trying to make sure their health issues are taken care of. If this is the best we can do for our community, we are surely completely failing.

My commitment to you is to represent you by making decisions that will affect your lives rather than making "deals" that only end up resulting in perpetuating our broken political system.

You have my promise that I will fulfill my duties with the high level honesty and integrity that we should all demand of our public officials.
