Sounds Like
Stolen Jewels (1989) is late 80's sampler-pop...with diverse avant garde sound sources (a bit like the Art of Noise and Holger Hiller for want of a better description) - and one of the first examples of it's kind
The Stinking Rose (1992) was an epic, exotic, sampledelic, concept album about GARLIC and starred Tara Newley(Joan Collins' daughter) on vocals. It went unreleased but is available for FREE download on my website
Spoombung (1998) is more minimalist and improvisational and sounds like African drums and Gamelan...but all played on the bass guitar in real time. It's my BASS album
Whispering Foils (2000) is a mixture of the above with a huge array of tuned percussion from Dominic Murcott and a more melodic content and greater tonal scope
Saurus (2003) is a collection of very melodic, romantic tunes for the musical saw (the saw is a bit like a more organic theremin)
I Saw Spoombung's Daughter consumed by Kirby Dots (2005) is electronic mutated, fizzy pop using software synthesis/sampling and acoustic instruments - halfway between Ticklish and myself!
Where do I start? Well, I was once the bass player in Stump. And in a poll I was once voted the 57th best bass player in the world..until people began adding newer, funkier bass players and I was demoted to 61st. I also play the musical saw now and again. I have created virtual electronic instruments and self generating sound machines with the Reaktor software. Lately I've become a keen acoustic guitar picker.
I'm a member of Ticklish a live electronic , improvisational, multimedia group. I've made 6 solo albums since Stump days (all quite different from each other, in my opinion) and they're still available (apart from the first one): don't all rush at once. Here are some details below. I sometimes record under the 'Spoombung' alias.
Just dropping by to see how you're doing. My exciting news - the NYC Musical Saw Festival got approved by the Guinness Book of Records to attempt to break the current record for 'Largest Musical Saw Ensemble'! We'll miss you there :(
Hi Kev thanks for accepting my request. Its fantastic to see your still working. I was a fan of Stump in my younger years. Still love them now to be honest. Enjoying your tracks aswell
Thanks for adding me Kev, and for making the rest of your recordings available free! I'm glad to say I bought Stolen Jewels & Whispering Foils but hadn't heard any others, so enjoying listening to them. Cheers
Cheers champ, an honour having you here, be well, and do enjoy the library/blog's contents, here's hoping that it'll inspire you, as your creative spirit has inspired mine, sweet dreams then...
Please God tell me you didn't get a "hit" put on Charlton just to get The Anthology a bit more publicity. Seems extreme, if entirely laudable. Enjoying its pristene CD lovelyness...
The Pool Song is very odd indeed ! I wonder what's going on.... Excited to see you're looking for a singer, that means good things on the horizon, presuming you find one....
