The Matinee Idylls were formed in 2008 after lead singer/songwriter Kevin Barry released his critically acclaimed solo debut album "Looking for Murphy"(see below for reviews on the album)
Kevin decided to form a band to compliment his music & what developed was a full 7 piece band, the live gigs & raw performances have entertained audiences all over Dublin & Ireland.
Band Members:
Kevin Barry lead Vocals & Guitars,
Ray Beggan - Synth ,
Doug Sheridan - Drums/vocals
Ciara Ashmore- Vocals,

Prior to the formation of the Matinee Idylls lead singer songwriter Kevin Barry toured Australia in the late 1990’s with a band called “Be” who were signed to Sony records and recorded their third album whilst there.
Kevin was born in London but at a young age moved to Co. Kerry then embarked on the singer songwriter journey that took him to Dublin 13 years ago; he has played such venues as The Sugar Club, Craw Daddy & Whelans Dublin.
He will be going into studio to record his eagerly awaited second album in late May 2009 and the new album will be released in September 2009

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID::::
===================================================
===================================================
"Before we start, a gentle round of applause ladies and gentlemen please for a solo artist completely writing, making and releasing their own album. Such is the mountain that Kevin Barry has climbed (I personally know how steep a path that this is). So, Kevin's album "Looking for Murphy" whats it like? Well its an excellently recorded, hand carved body of work that Kevin has clearly painstakingly nurtured, polished and tweaked throughout the whole process. What you get is a eclectic collection of very personal and personable songs in the same ballpark as Peter Gabriel or if Thom Yorke of Radiohead had been locked in a studio for a couple of months his own. Theres no genre chasing or faddy fashionista posturing here, its just very compelling.
There are some seriously grown up emotions peppered throughout the songs such as the heart-wrenching dark balladry (and stand out track) "Under your spell" that is nudged slowly along by the clever use of some ethereal strings and piano which could easily be used as a Tim Burton film track. Kevin plays and experiments with sounds and instruments in his songs to provide the listener with a unique but compelling musical experience from the (slightly) more uptempo 'Pain in my head' to the 'Sledgehammer'-esque 'Tell it like it is'. Every song stands on its own merits and are hugely listenable.
This an album of the highest quality forged in the fire found only in the belly of someone who really believes in what they do.
Buy it..."==RANK: ****** 6 out of 6 REVIEW BY DRUMHEAD of Musicreview UK

LOOKING FOR MURPHY(SELF RELEASED) * * * * *
(BRUISED TROUBADOUR MAKES LATE-NIGHT GEM)
The first thing you notice when you listen to Looking For Murphy is Kevin Barry's voice. Bruised,battered but utterly brilliant, his vocals are drenched in emotion and raw as an opened wound. It takes quite a bit of balls for an artist to musically lay everything on the line, but it's a gamble that has paid off as each listen to the record reaps new rewards.
Looking for Murphy is a pretty dark listen and tailer-made for late nights alone, but sometimes you have to appreciate the darkness before you can love the light.
