Influences
I’m influenced by every sound I hear around me, music or not. The washing noise of a city street, the mechanical rhythm of a car and other modern machines, the slamming sound of wind against your eardrums, it’s all music. I love recordings when they turn the mics on while entering the studio, gripping their instruments, capturing the music between the notes. The entire process is all part of the song, and I understand it completely, subsequently, influencing my own process.
I grew up singing/playing music in Boulder, CO., raised by a father that played in the church band and a mother who taught first grade with an acoustic in hand. My parents would sing my sister and I to sleep, teach lessons through song, and take us to Broadway musicals and Who concerts at a very young age. I practiced and performed throughout high school and college in a cappella groups, choirs, and solo gigs with an acoustic guitar and musician friends.
I started writing/recording music during the last few years of high school, working with a 4-track tape recorder and quickly progressing to multi-tracking recording software on the family computer, layering bass, guitar, and vocals all in the living room.
I recorded my first album of original work during the summer of 2001, with a friend's dad that had a digital recording studio in his house located up Sunshine Canyon in the mountains above Boulder, CO. I produced 300+ copies of "Daydreaming" and sold them at gigs, in class, and online at kevinheinz.com.
in 2004, I traveled to Australia and studied music production at Griffith University in Queensland, spending my class/freetime writing/recording/producing a full band demo titled "Australia." I kept a blog describing the travel/recording experience, and published the full demo along with videos and pictures from Australia on kevinheinz.com.
Currently, I live in the mountains of Colorado, playing gigs, house jams and open mic nights throughout the Vail Valley. I've collaborated with a few musicians/friends, and perform under the name "Dr. Awkward" for clubs/bars/parties. We're currently working on live and home studio recordings to publish, and are planning a CO mountain tour.
Hi Kev!! Thanks for the rocky mountain love...demo kind of didn't happen. i need to get it together. i think i really just wanted an excuse to get you out to visit me and play some music...so when are you coming???? ;)
This is Greg from Winds Of Thor - The Music Of Led Zeppelin. Hope to see you at The Madison on August 29th for the ULTIMATE Led Zeppelin concert! www. windsofthor. net
Kevin! I ran across your CD from Pearl Street Mall- the one with Road Trip and Alright, and You Never Know! It's awesome! I mean, you're more awesome now, but....brings back memories. Hope things are great for you!
Sup Kev! Long time no chat or see huh bud? Sorry I've totally slacked on my end. I'm actually coming up Skiing from the 26th-28th of March if any of those dates fit for you and ya wanna catch up. Also I broke my phone and therefore lost all my contacts. Shoot me your number sometime so I can add it back in. Thanks! Hope all is well!
KEVIN. Hey!! So it's been a while--how are you friend?? Just thought I'd drop you a line--I'm almost for sure moving to Australia for a year starting next spring--I remembered you'd spent some time down under as well and thought I'd see if you had any insider tips or advice =) Hope all is wonderful!
Kevin- I'm digging the new tracks. I can't wait to hang next week. I was wondering if you are still accepting gigs at slumber parties? I'm hosting a little "Sorry Invitational" that could use some spicing up.
Haven't heard from you in awhile so thought I would touch base. You still interested in doing a bio and providing a pic for us to use for International Marketing? Would be great to hear back as I am being hassled by our promotions team.
Hey Kev!!! I am so sorry, but since the boys still have my car, I'm not going to make it up to the mountains to see your awesome show! Next time...and remember, come say hi to all of us Boulderites sometime!!! xxx
