Both my grandfather, the late Charlie Arthur and my fiddle teacher, the late Willie Hunter, were huge influences on me both musically and in my life in general.
Willie Hunter was an exceptional teacher who made every lesson more than enjoyable. For that I am truly grateful.
Other big influences on me are the amazing musicians in Fiddlers' Bid, Boys of the Lough and Session A9, I feel extremely privileged and honoured to work with them all. Other influences include Aly Bain, Hom Bru, Cullivoe Dance Band, Alan Nicholson, Jim Halcrow Band, Bryan Gear, Martin Hayes, Alisdair Frasers "The Road North" album, Rodney Miller's "Airplang" album, Mark O'Conner, Sean Maguire, Phil Cunningham, Michael McGoldrick, Vasen and lots lots more!
I love listening to all different types of music from folk-rock-pop-jazz-classical................................... I believe all the stuff I listen to influences me in some way.

Kevin Henderson is one of the most exciting young fiddlers on the world stage, and is in hot demand as he performs around the globe with three renowned musical groups. He has been a member of Shetland group, Fiddlers’ Bid, since 1991; Celtic group, Boys of the Lough, since 2002; and Scottish group, Session A9, since 2004. Henderson has been featured on 12 albums. He has appeared on television and radio programs worldwide, including the BBC and many appearances on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” on National Public Radio in America.
Henderson is a native of the Shetland Islands, home of one of the richest fiddling traditions in the world. He was inspired by his grandfather to start playing at age nine, and studied under master fiddlers Trevor and Willie Hunter. Within two years he was winning fiddling competitions, and was a prizewinner in the Shetland’s Young Fiddler of the Year competition for six years in a row.
At the age of 14, Henderson was ready to take the next step in the music world, and co-founded the Shetland ensemble, Fiddler’s Bid. He has since toured with this group across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and Japan. They’ve recorded five albums to date, the latest, “All Dressed In Yellow”, released on their own label, Hairst Blinks Music. “Da Farder Ben Da Welcomer”, released in 2002 on Scotlands leading traditional music label, Greentrax, went onto be the labels best selling album that same year.
Henderson joined Shetland group Drop the Box at age 19, and performed with them in many countries for five years. He’s featured on the band’s second CD, Honeytrap.
In 2001, Henderson was invited to perform on a CD with legendary Celtic music ensemble Boys of the Lough. He soon became a member of the group, touring North America twice a year and appearing at European music festivals. He has been featured in the ensemble’s four latest CDs. Recently released is Rising Fawn Gathering, a collaboration with American bluegrass musician’s Norman and Nancy Blake who wrote the score for the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou.”
Scottish group Session A9 became part of Henderson’s regular line-up when he first guested with them in 2004 at the Orkney Folk Festival. The group’s latest CD, Bottlenecks and Armbreakers, has earned critical acclaim. Session A9 was nominated as Scottish Folk Band of the Year in the 2008 Scottish Traditional Music Awards.
In February 2009, Anders Hall and Olav Luksengård Mjelva, 2 of the finest young fiddle players from Sweden and Norway respectively, approached Kevin with the idea of collaborating. After first meeting each other at a music festival in Norway they developed a deep admiration and respect for each others playing and traditions and were keen to explore things further. They met up in May 2009 to exchange musical ideas and the meeting surpassed expectations. The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc was born and they were soon booked to do a short tour later in the year to great success. An album is planned for 2010.
For the past 4 years he has worked as an artistic leader at Ethno Sweden, an event organised by Rikskonserter Sweden, which brings together about 100 young musicians from every corner of the globe. The week is overseen by 5 artistic leaders who help arrange and rehearse the music so it’s ready for concert presentations at the end of the week.
In addition to touring with four musical groups he performs at music festivals and teaches at workshops at both home and abroad.
