I perform regularly as a member of Elliott Sharp's Limbic Trio, along with Don McKenzie. I'm also in The Dylan Project, a band with Dean Bowman, Marty Ehrlich, Diane Moser and Andrew Drury, dedicated to the music of Bob Dylan. I'm in the process of forming a collective trio with some friends-more on that later. In addition, I play as a sideman with various people.
The first piece here is an excerpt from a much longer improvised work structured by Joe McPhee, and performed by the Kitchen Houseblend Band, along with Joe. In this portion, you hear Marlene Rice, Nioka Workman, Joe and myself. The others are from a band I recently had with Curtis Fowlkes on trombone, Rob Garcia-drums, John Savage-reeds. Dana Leong is ..o, and Steve Swell is playing trombone on the recording. The first piece is a Don Cherry composition. Next is a wonderful piece by Steve Swell. The last is a great song by Billy Strayhorn. I haven't recorded in a few months, but hope to remedy that soon.
If anyone wants to play, feel free to drop me a line.
Since coming to NY, Kevin Ray has been filling out the bottom for such artists as the late John Stubblefield, Oliver Lake, Andrew Hill, Pheeroan Aklaff, Marty Ehrlich, Curtis Fowlkes, Elliott Sharp, Ray Anderson, Frank Lacy, John Hicks and many others.
Thanks for the support and discovering us on here. We really appreciate it! Man, you've got some chops! Very nice. -Cheers, Mocha Maya's Coffee House & Espresso Bar
Yo Kevin! Thanks for finding me! I'll be back in NY in a month or so (tour's ending this week...) so it will be a good time to do the hang. Let me know when you're playing. I'll come check it out.
Hey Kevin,
I'm in Europe with Dean. We had a good performances last night. I'll be back in New York in late November. Let's get together ...
