I do the bulk of my work as a solo musician, including writing and recording all of my own original music, as well as a few choice covers. My live shows consist of myself, my guitar, and a mic. Most of the tracks on my first full-length disc were done by me, in my home studio.
However, I was very fortunate to have the experience of Dave Martin and an assortment of highly talented, veteran session players for my first professional recording venture at the Java Jive Studios just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. They added a richness and depth to my original songs Turn Out In The Wind, Radio Flyer, and Time Is. Their patience—especially with a rookie in the studio—and skill helped me realize the sound and feel for which I was aiming but could never have achieved on my own. I’m much obliged for their help and guidance.
Dave is not only an extremely talented musician; he is also a virtuoso engineer and producer, and the author of several how-to articles in highly-regarded trade magazines. His excellent piece, Recording Acoustic Music, in the November ’08 issue of Recording magazine, is a must-read for novices and pros alike. I can unequivocally recommend Dave Martin and his crew at Java Jive Studios to anyone who is looking for quality and expertise – and his genuinely helpful attitude helps make the entire process a true pleasure.
I’d also like to thank Rob McIver at Sonic Union, in NYC for introducing me to the world of high-caliber, professional recording. I have been fortunate indeed.
