Hanging out at Liberty Lunch, in Austin, Texas when you're in the eighth grade tends to do something to a kid. For Kevin Smith, it was just another reason to pick up the guitar around that time and see what could happen. Today, it still finds him firmly planted in the same spot it all started... South Austin. His earliest memories include watching one of his musical heroes, Roky Erickson, walk up and down the street in front of his house everyday. It was during this time in the early 80's when Roky was not playing music, that Smith often walked with Roky up and down Arthur Lane in front of his house, trying to get Roky to communicate with him, and constantly trying to get his Dad to explain what Roky was doing during those years. It finally sunk in one day, and one thing he took away from it, was that if you're not doing what you're mind and soul are ment to do, and not moving forward, then life can be mundane. Thank God that Roky has moved on to find greener pastures and continue to do what he was ment to do, and Kevin has been able to use this childhood experience as a positive motivation towards doing what he was ment to do. His music has taken him around the country and world over the past ten years, and he feels like he's just now getting started. Today, Smith's music reflects what he knows, and grew up cutting his teeth on, what he knows deep in his soul. "With a deep, booming voice harking back to a time in music history when singers Like Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash reigned supreme,(and with songwriting abilities to boot), his songs relate to just about anybody, and his sound is all his own, no doubt."..This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5
