Informazioni su KEVORKIAN - CZ hardcore band 1995-2004
The original beginning of the band can be traced back to 1995 when guitarist Robert Robovski, got together with chums of similar characters: a percussionist Jiri Drazan, and a screaming guy Pepa Koucourek. At that time Drazan performed also in another band Lumen. The original problems in getting a bass player were solved by Jan Cvachovec who joined the band. Since the group members came from regular visitors of great hc/punk shows in the Prague's club 007, it was clear from the very beginning which route the band would take. Its first pieces combined non-compromising thrash guitar riffs and hardcore rhythmics with Kocourek's screaming vocals that were in contrast to his more or less positive personal lyrics.
The band was born but in fact it started to function in the autumn of 1996 playing their first concerts. 1997 brought further successful concerts and the first local tour. In the autumn the bass player was replaced. The same year Minority Records noticed the band and their co-operation resulted in the first 7"EP in March 1998 including two songs: "The Abyss" and "Only Once You Haven't Remembered". Two months later Kevorkian recorded 4 more songs for a split LP with emo band Albion, again under the label of Minority Records. In 1998 the band toured with Albion in Czech, Poland and Slovakia. Particularly the first concerts abroad in the Polish towns of Grudziadz and Torun brought about unprecedented success and new experience. The next tour followed in 1998 with the controversial Esgmeq.
Day After records (with titles such as 4 Walls Falling, Lumen, Sunshine, Frodus, Endstand, etc) showed interest in Kevorkian. The result was another 7"EP "Who Is Who" that caused certain shock, if compared to the previous work. Progressive guitar lines associating Voivod or King Crimson for a while just to slide into the sabbath-like darkness or crushing chaotic machine a la Neurosis or Today is the Day. The band is touring again together with the Prague band Dussander. Bass player Vorisek is leaving the band and Petr Hemerka is taking his place. In spring 2000 Kevorkian played shows in Poland, Hungary and Austria. Some of them together with the Locust and in December they left for a minitour to Croatia and Austria with Albion.
In summer 2001 singer Kocourek is leaving and is replaced by Tomas Mladek from Dussander. The band went for a 10 days tour around Germany. Another original member - Drazan is leaving the band, so that could the new chapter of Kevorkian's history began. Their brand new face brought the cd Relief through scream (Hopewell records). 34 minutes of total aggressiveness, catching melodies and unbelievable energy expressed by perfect guitar work, hard bass line and perfect rhythmic section of the new percussion blood in the interpretation of Miroslav Urbanek and supplemented by Mladek's guttural roar makes the first long play record of Kevorkian the unequivocally unbeatable HC album. The cd includes a video clip to the song "Venantius Letter". Vinyl version is secured by a label with a mysterious name "Owls Are Not What They Seem Records". If you want to have an idea about the Relief Through Scream mood, just try to mix Black Sabbath, Entombed, Integrity, Unsane, Damnation a.d. plus something more. Mladek's lyrics perfectly sketch in the overall dark atmosphere of the recording; mostly these represent very interesting rendering of various negative aspects of life in a human society and his own stage performance would convince even the most obstinate doubter that he has to do something with a band that insists on everything it presents - volcanic energy, uncompromising position and professionalism. After the first full length album band left for a month-long tour throughout Europe. Kevorkian played dozens of concerts with bands of famous names like Napalm Death, D.R.I., Congress, Born From Pain, Grade, Strife, The Great Deceiver, Damnation a.d., Propagandhi, Locust, Milemarker, Metroschifter, Culture, Ink & Dagger, Logical Nonsense, Barcode etc.
The band played their last show on August 21st 2004 in Rothenburg, Germany.
