In the beginning there was only one place to be in the UK, at that time, and was to be my first gig, The California Ballroom. 2000 people came from all over the country on a Friday & Saturday, the atmosphere was awesome. Keeping a crowd rocking that size was a real buzz for my first residence. At the same venue on the same nights was devils den, & Didoz on a Sunday for the real hard-core fans of jazz funk & soul. That was my Apprenticeship. Had some great times there with artists like; Roy Ayers, Blackbirds, Crusaders, Players Association, Brass Construction, Grover Washington, Ramsey Lewis & Herbie Hancock to name a few.
All made possible by the legend that was Mick Ilka RIP. The main room was cool, but, nothing was better than going down to the Devils Den, then later Didoz with a smaller hard core gathering of die hard Jazz Funk crowd, and playing to true die hard music lovers.
As all good things come to an end, it did. The machines came in and flattened it. An end of the dream that was The California Ballroom.
Took up residency at other major clubs in the southeast, waiting for something to give me that buzz again. It did, House music was born, and became as much of my life as jazz funk did before. There was nothing better than being able to mix the two genres of music together. As music took its different directions I simply became bored with it all, time for a break. So stuck my head under the covers to let time pass by.
I stuck my head out every now and then, only to find that there was nothing that I could relate to.
Then one day it did, 15 Years Later. I heard the likes of Roger Sanchez, Eric Morillo, Harry Choo Choo Romero and Danny Tenaglia. What a wake up call. These guys gave me the enthusiasm to dust off the vinyl’s, get into the studio and put the years of experience I have to good use !
Every now & then, I like to get out of the studio, see daylight and do the odd one off gig to try out whatever I have been working on. Never any dates, just like to turn up on the quiet, rock the house & leave.
Currently working on a number of remixes , Soon to be releasing my own in 2008. All tracks will be released via our dance outfit .. Rendezvue.......www.myspace.com/rendezvue............................................
