Have a listen and decide for yourself! A lot of people who have heard us enjoy the sound. You can too.
Keyotone was officially founded August 2007 in Ottawa, Ontario rising from the ashes of Slight of Hand circa April 2006. Keyotone's sound is a unique mix of rock, funk, metal, and blues. Their influences include: Stone Temple Pilots, Incubus, Taproot, Chevelle, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Big Wreck, Down, Deftones and Alice In Chains.
Keyotone comprises or four members; Casey Potter on guitar, Jeff Coghlan on bass, Jesse Newell on drums, and Steve Ruth on vox. Keyotone has seen many changes in roster and style. Casey and Jesse have been playing together since 2001 under the names of Backspin and Slight of Hand. Jeff has had his hands in many projects over the years and joined Slight of Hand in the summer of 2004 in order to fill in for an incarcerated bass player, and has stayed since. Steve, the former singer and founder of east-coast rock act Gage, joined SOH in the spring of 2006. In the summer of 2009 they added another member to the group by hiring Lisa Meuser, of the Meus Productions, to manage the band, and free their time for further creativity.
The guys in Keyotone combine their separate influences and individual playing styles to create and record diverse and captivating music. Trying to stay in the realms of radio-rock, and yet branch into more creative expressions of music is a constant challenge that thrills and excites them at every turn. They have assembled seven choice songs from their repertoire to put onto a demo disc for their fans’ enjoyment including such songs as; Bad Advice, which blends slap and pop with rock and roll in an experimental fashion new to the band at the time; Wake Up, which holds a swung beat that makes a walk down the street turn more into a dance; and Over Yet, a fluid mixture of solid rock, and squishy emotion.
When not in the studio writing, recording or practicing, they love to put on entertaining rock shows at live music venues. They have played in venues both in Ontario and Quebec, including repeat business in the heart of Toronto. With a loyal crowd and an easily enjoyed performance, Keyotone’s members are always being sought after for when the next show is, even while still on stage. Lately they have been focusing on writing new material, while still entertaining their crowds, and are eagerly awaiting an opportunity to showcase their newer material.
With nine years of partnership behind them, Keyotone looks forward to a further nine with boundless times more success then previous. They have gathered CDs and shirts to offer to their fans, and are continually creating new sounds to supply as well. With your co-operation, the success of the summer of 2010 will be one worth remembering, starting the new decade three octaves above middle C.
