My music is at
keystoplease.net I was born in Harvey, Illinois, but grew up in Georgetown in Washington, D.C. I spent most of my summers on a dairy farm in Bluemont, Virginia. I guess that explains why I "milk" every song for all I can get! I began playing the piano at the age of six.Picking up more instruments as I grew older, I attended Fairfax High School where, I am proud to say, I was the first freshman in the history of Virgina to sing in the All State Choir and Madrigals which is normally reserved for seniors. In the 1980’s,I was in the Band Stone Henge. Durring that period, I was asked to play intermission for Woddy Herman at the Empire Theater on Broad St in Richmond Va. I was a regular piano player at Penny Lane Pub. The Eppicurian Resturant and O’Toole’s Restaurant in Richmond. Among numerious establishments of great stature.Like the Iron Horse Restaurant in Ashland.I moved to Texas for a year where I played at the Westheimer Club, and then on to Chico, California. While in California, I worked for 90.1 KZFR Radio doing background music for live shows and commercials. Also playing Lyons Restaurant on the weekends. Then did bookings for Caterers,Business Civic activities,Conventions, Private clubs and mainstream bands. I returned to Virginia, and during the 1990’s, played a variety of music ranging from the 1920 era to the present .I was also a member of the band Mid-Life Crisis. While I was with that band, I had the wonderful opportunity to open for Eddie Money at the Boulders. In 1998, I joined the alternative music band Granny Crush and played the bass guitar. That's right, the bass guitar, another instrument (among many) I enjoy playing. In 2001, I joined the band Silver Creek and performed on a regular basis at Bubba’s in Mechanicsville. Also doing all that I had a Singer Melvin Thomas ,who was a singer for the drifters in the 60's. We called ourselves, Just 2 Guys. I joined the Austin Armadillos in April 2002. At that time, we would perform for Big John Trimble’s East Coast Opry, and later we became the house band for WXGI radio station Hosting The Country Jamboree. Where our regular house was the Cutural Arts Center. The music I enjoy the most is 1900 - current and big band music, which I play at retirement homes and McGuire’s Veteran’s Hospital for the last 27 years. I have been married to my wife Sandy, who wrote the Austin Armadillos' monthly newsletter, since 1998, and I have a 23 year old son, Brandon. I am available for private parties, studio, background, conventions, weddings, and a whole lot more. Send me an e-mail at cats.rus@verizon.net for details. New information as of November 13, 2009.
