KFMG returns to the airwaves as a low power community station designed especially to super serve the city of Des Moines and its vibrant downtown community.
KFMG is a not for profit station designed to deliver huge benefits to the PEOPLE of Des Moines.
We are not out of town owner-operators who take our hard earned money out of town. We are local residents totally invested in DES MOINES and because this is our home, we're not going away.
The MUSIC
KFMGs hallmark music format is called ADULT ALTERNATIVE or PROGRESSIVE radio. You'll hear adult rock, blues, jazz, acoustic and world beat music with lots of surprises along the way.
Des Moines, Iowa has a rich heritage of progressive radio that rivals cities like San Francisco, Chicago and Boulder.
In fact, KFMG's ratings frequently showed us as the NUMBER ONE adult alternative station in the UNITED STATES.
HERITAGE
Many Des Moines adults grew up with great music. In the 1960s Ron Sorenson pioneered one of the Midwest's first progressive stations, KFMG.
Sorenson returned with KBLE in the late '70s and '80s and then reprised KFMG in the '90s.
Now Sorenson has teamed up with the man who probably knows Des Moines better than anyone, former mayor and jazz radio host, Preston Daniels.
