Sounds Like
"A Jazz Fusion Technician" with a very relaxed feel. Khalil plays with a
mature dynamic approach, always alloying for a crescendo (and or diminuendo) in the single and
double stroke rolls.
His intricate cymbal patterns have been compared to those of master Indian percussionist "Trilok Gurtu", Khalil's single greatest influences on the instrument! Along with complex cymbal patterns, you'll also hear a consistent flurry of ghost notes being played in the left hand, suggesting great linear independence and control of his weak side.
Khalil achieves this sound by playing melodic paradiddle variations in the hands which are contradictory to what's being played in the feet...creating complex polyrhythmic patterns from a simple rudimental idea!!
