Half folk and half noise, Melbourne-based khancoban are masters of musical space and tension. Having existed in various configurations since 2004, the five-piece collective have two recorded releases to date – khancoban and Limbs May Fall – both of which have been released on Nic Dalton’s celebrated label Half A Cow Records. With a third album currently in the works, khancoban are now flexing their musical wings. Not only did the band recently mount their first musical sojourn through the USA, but singer and songwriter Andre Hooke recently toured with key influence Vic Chesnutt. khancoban are currently plotting a European tour for 2010. You have previously seen Khancoban playing with Built To Spill, Vic Chesnutt, Victoria Williams, New Buffalo, Something For Kate, Smudge, Sodastream, Gaslight Radio, amongst others.
khancoban now have t-shirts! They come in light blue, dark blue and emerald green and are available for women, men and youths in a wide range of sizes. Price is $20 plus postage ($5 for Australia, $10 worldwide). To order, email tshirts@khancoban.net. Here are some photos:
Just been listening to your newer tracks and enjoying ghostly sounds. My brother Greg has taken up the bass and we are at last in the throws of recording an album, having fun, maybe catch up with you at one of your gigs sometime soon.

This could be as damaging as when one of the members from Hi5 posed naked in one of those soft porn magazines. But seriously sounds cool, will be looking forward to the finished product...

I am back in Melbourne on Wednesday night for a very special performance with the immortal Victoria Williams. We are playing The Empress Hotel in Fitzroy. It starts at 8:00pm. So come on down and spend an evening with us before Victoria bids Australia a reluctant fare-the-well and heads back home to the beautiful expanse of the Californian desert …
