What could be a more distinctive piece-of-art than a combination of Mahabharata folklore, sound and visual academics, and a vision of what an art performance should be. Khuruksetra is those combined together.

It started as an obsession of an event that took place in the Khuruksetra battlefield where evil meets the good. The war was described as the biggest war in the folklore. Four sound and visual academics believed they could reproduce the war through the medium of art performances.

Khuruksetra, which started in 2006, then emerged with a mix background that makes it becomes a unique cross-art performance. Danif Pradana is a noise-artist through Kalimayat before focusing on filmmaking and Khuruksetra. Mikael Mirdad, a graduate of Media, Arts, and Production program in University Technology of Sydney, which focus on sound and culture. Andra Fembriarto is a visionary young filmmaker who recently won a short movie award in Melbourne, Australia. And Enrico Gobel, who first helped the group before joining full time, gives the subsonic bass guitar environment through his musical genius.

Elements of noise and ambience are the soul of its performance. It distorts the term music as a prior knowledge. The noise element could reach the level where it breaches the perception of what is sound and what is music. As a concept, the noise element would be disturbing, yet it is fulfilling as an experience. While the ambience element, depicts the exact opposite of noise element in the performance. Khuruksetra has artistically crafted and balanced both elements into a new experience, the Khuruksetra’s experience.

The audio element then enhanced by a visual element of Khuruksetra’s unique and distinct perception of moving image as an artistic production.

It claims the genre of surreal automatic feedback. It has the experimental element with them where abstract considered being the melody. It is claustrophobic, means the audience is trapped in an environment that foreign to them. While sonic universe experience, where the audience is becoming parts of the performance, has become an agenda in every Khuruksetra performances.

Khuruksetra was first acknowledged by a local Australian who highly appreciated the performance. Then the journey begins. Khuruksetra has played in front of Sydney City audience. Since, they have conquered other major cities such as Melbourne and Singapore. However, every seed has to grow and Khuruksetra has taken another leap in their journey. It now focuses on bigger audience and a more well crafted concept to gain more acknowledgment as the intellectual geniuses in Indonesian art scene.
