LATEST KICKING AND SCREAMING NEWS
We got evicted before the last show. But IT IS NOT CANCELLED just postponed... its summer so everyone is floatin about doing stuff, so wait untill we've landed and I'm sure there will be more action.
AND!..
GET IN TOUCH if you would like to exhibit. Bovver_boi@yahoo.co.uk..

NEW EXHIBITION!
KICKING AND SCREAMING MANIFESTO

WE DONT LIKE...

* The gentrification and the 'developing' (i.e destruction) of our city and shrinking of our space
* The uniforming, restricting and repressing forces against our freedom, our space, our bodies, our thoughts, imagination, Our possibillities. Our ART..
* Monumental art, glorifide art.
* Art that simply tries to please.. 'nice' fluffy art, unimaginative art (urgh!).

WE DO LIKE...

* Interesting, provoking, rebellious, imaginative, inspiring, queer, head-fucking, liberating, confusing, discusting, beautyful, ugly art
* Taking back our space and our minds from capital and the mundane system(s) (or at least trying!).
* Doing it OURSELVES... Opening our own doors (or windows!)... not waiting around for some boys with loads of money to open some for us.
* We like it when idea's and collective projects are recognised before the names of individuals.

Kling Klang

I totally buzz off Kling Klang. Fat electro krautrock riffs and landscapes get channeled through amiable scousers.

listen to Heavydale

Quack Quack

Yorskhire's top semi-pro rock band create pulsing rhythmic grooves lovingly fermented from the finest drums, synths and bass they could get their hands on. A very special vintage.

listen to Conversations

Minghe Morte

Musicianship of the highest calibre which will blow your head clean off. With drums, fucked up sax and bass coming together for infectiously violating rock grooves, tender atmospheres and aggresive spasmodic climaxing.

listen to i Punch U Coz i Like U

Curious Voice Duo

Two lovely girls from LIMA* who know their voices. Performing within semi-structures with an innocent improvisational flair, entwining their heavenly voices in gorgeously melodic dialogue. With no added vocal effects.

Hi,

If there are going to be two gigs that you miss this year then you don't want to make them these because something special will be happening here.

DEERHOOF - The most creative band on the planet, constantly reinventing their sound with a drummer that makes Animal look sedentary, an absolute joy to behold live!!

www.myspace.com/deerhoof

FIELD MUSIC - Song craftsmanship of the highest order from these stablemates of The Futureheads who I'm sure (I'm guessing here) are able to summon the spirits of The Beach Boys, The Beatles and other pop geniuses and do with them whatever they like!

www.myspace.com/fieldmusic

QUACK QUACK - Awe-inspiring drumming, slightly deranged but harmonious keys, bass guitar which is like a firm groovy handshake... Sorry, it's not possible to summarize these guys, you'll have to hear for yourself.

www.myspace.com/thisisquackquack

KIT - Good friends of Deerhoof and they need to be checked out NOW!!! So do it.

This gig has great bands playing but enough about them. This gig is about ME and JAMES and who's the hardest, and no I don't have an ego, but I just can't stand it when someone is convinced that they're better than me when they're blatantly inferior!

There's only one real way of resolving this...

The Lodger - www.myspace.com/thelodgerleeds
Sky Larkin - www.myspace.com/skylarkinskylarkin
Downdime - www.myspace.com/downdime
The Sugars - www.myspace.com/thesugars
The Ape Drape Escape - www.myspace.com/theapedrapeescape
Fran Rodgers - www.myspace.com/francesrodgers

Hi,

After a little hiatus over the past 6 months while lots of other exciting things went on, Reassess Your Weapons zine is now looking to make a return with its 7th issue.

Reassess Your Weapons is the collective zine of the Manifesta collective, and its friends.
(see www.myspace.com/manifestaleeds or check out the new website which should be online soon at: www.manifesta.co.uk)

We're currently looking for contributions and submissions on any topics. Got something burning that you want to put onto paper? Feel free to contribute your thoughts, writings, musings, illustrations and creativities.

As well as general submissions, we also hope to dedicate a portion of the zine to a collaborative discussion on: 'Reflections and (Re)evaluations of Collectivity, Community, and Communication.'

Or just 'collectivity, community and communication' if you want a snappier title!

Make of this 'theme' what you will, and interpret it however you wish.
Hopefully it's broad enough to capture many diverging thoughts, and contributions.

As ever, send whatever you wish for inclusion (along this theme, or otherwise), and I look forward to patching a new issue of the zine together over the next few months.

Mail contributions to: reassessyrweapons@manifesta.co.uk

Thanks, Melanie xox

Creative Women get recognition on International Women's Day!

As part of the run up to Ladyfest Leeds (an amazing arts festival taking place in April from the 10th to the 15th) I am helping to create a newspaper to coincide with the festival and also the International Women's Day Ladyfest fundraiser.

International Women's Day (March 8th) is a global day that aims to connect women and inspire them to achieve their full potential. It's a great time to reflect and recognise the achievements of women past and present.

Ladyfests have always aimed to offer creative women a platform that would not usually be available to them, and so it is the combination of these ideas which leads me to ask you.....

If you could nominate a woman in arts (music, writing, performance etc.) that you would like to see recognised on International Women's Day, who would it be?

We are hoping to get a full page of the March paper dedicated to this 'Hall of Fame' and then we may go on to write further on some of the women highlighted for the actual Ladyfest newspaper.

Some nominations received already are:
Ariel Schrag, Melanie Maddison, Madame de Stael, Linder Sterling, Georgina Star, Charlotte Perkins-Gilman, Kim Gordon....

Let me know who you want to see recognised asap!
