Kid At The Back formed in early 2003 after Singer/Songwriter Zac Whitaker had spent two years in a room in Porthleven writing material he decided to upsticks and move back to London to form a band.
After a chance meeting at a mutual workplace, semi professional session musicians, Zac Whitaker (vocals, guitar) and Matt Gornicki (drums) then spent six months in a rehearsal studio writing and arranging songs whilst also searching for an amazing Bass player. This came in the shape of Anthony Durrant, an old friend of Matts who had previously worked with Matt in the band Cadre.
Five months later Kid At The Back played their first live show at The Horn Reborn. This was a roaring success and the band was invited back to take part in the venues annual Battle Of The Bands competition. After four months of gigs they reached the semi-finals and were narrowly beaten by Enter Shikari. Not satisfied with this the band entered two more competitions. The Flag and The Fountain in. This time both finals were reached and they were narrowly beaten by Bush Dr and The Subways.
Also in this time Kid At The Back music has been heard worldwide with repeated airtime on British Forces Radio and providing the soundtrack for surfers and skaters on channel four and satellites, Extreme Sports Show.
On the back of this success KATB undertook a big promotional campaign to ensure their music was available to a wider audience.
This saw the band performing in and winning the EmergenzaUK unsigned band festival. On the back of this they were taken to Germany to perform at the Taubertal international festival in front of 20,000 people. This also saw them announced among the top twenty unsigned bands worldwide by Emergenza/JAR Music.
Since the festival, unfortunately bass player Ant decided he could not keep up with the bands now hectic schedule. This led to him leaving and after a brief spell with Ed Pyle on bass the band have now inducted one of the best young bass players in the UK, Lee Voss. KATB have recently released their debut single 'Slide Away' (available on ITunes and Napstar) and are promoting their music to a wider audience. Meanwhile they will be playing many live shows all over the UK with many different promoters including Inspiral and Mojo Rising and are looking to kick off 2008 with a tour of the South West, WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!!!!
