KidD KlasZ (Artist Biography)-

Karl Meyers, now known as Kidd Klasz, was born February 24th, 1975 in Peoria, Illinois,
but grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1992, he and his mother moved to Pasadena, Texas, where
he continued his education and graduated in c/o '93 from Pasadena High School.
May 21st, 1996 was a pivotal moment for Karl. He attended an event in Houston at the
Ampre Theater called "Beyond". Headlining this event were two very popular artists,
DJ Keoki, and Crystal Method. He was so intrigued by the electronic music culture that
it inspired him to want to learn the art of dj'ing/mixing. By 1998, after years of watching other
dj's, he purchased his first set of Gemini turntables, a numark mixer, and had collected
massive amount of vinyl records, most of which were of tribal and disco house genres.
After teaming up with a local dj crew, the Disfunktional Tribe, he landed his first
public gig May 9th 1998 at a small game room in Laporte Texas called Vertigo.
Karl then went on to networking, and promoting events with The Scooby Doo Crew (SDC) in 1999.
It was while with SDC he learned the majority of his promoting skills, and basic knowledge of
audio/visual technology. With the progression of his dj skills, Karl took on a bigger
challenge of learning to mix the harder styles of Chicago /LA hard house music. As a disco
house dj he was known as Karl Samuels, but soon realized the name was much too soft to use
when mixing the hardstyles. Since everyone he knew already called him "kidd" due to his
youthful appearance, he changed his alias Kidd. He then added "klasz" as to describe
the genre he played most, that of classic techno anthems. Since 2000 he has been known as,
KidD KlasZ, but has been known to surprise crowd goers with his Karl Samuels disco house.
While still associated with the Disfunktional Tribe and SDC, Kidd Klasz's popularity grew
along with his Dj'ing skills. Unfortunately by this time ( '01 - '03 ) the electronic music
scene, along with the economy, began to fade. Gigs were sparse, but he did not let it
discourage him. He practiced day and night becoming more inventive with his style,
exploring new genres of music, and past his knowledge on to other aspiring dj's and friends.
Little did he know that yet another pivotal moment would soon come into play.
It was February, 2003, when he met a local go-go dancer named Nykki at one of his gigs.
Nykki, who was also an aspiring DJ, was drawn to his enthusiasm, energy, and many talents.
Over the course of two years they became great friends, practiced mixing together, shared
similar interests, goals, and had much in common. With that, they pushed one another to
become better at everything they did in life, and were positive forces in each others lives.
By January 2004 Karl and Nykki committed to buying the right's and the license to do
business as UNLIT PRODUCTIONS. And so on October 31st, 2005, they married!! Soon Karl
and Nykki found that they would be playing an even larger, more challenging role as parents.
Even with tough times, and the struggles of the family life they never gave up on their
first love.... their love for music. As the family grew so did UnliT Productions,... the
music scene, and their professional music careers.
UnliT Productions now an organized well-managed
Production Company began to grow and flourish by late 2006. With Karl and Nykki's combined
skills in event promotions, his knowledge of music and event production, and her knowledge
of combining a "shock art" fashion with the performing arts, their possibilities became endless.
Unlit Productions is now a full entertainment company, offering such
services as DJ's, go-go dancers, break dancers, performance artists, and models. Not
limiting their talents to just entertainment, Unlit also offers event coordination, electronics
repairs ,refurbishment, and/or customization audio/stage equipment.
In only five years, Unlit Productions has grown into more than Karl and Nykki could've ever imagined.
With his great deal of success, Kidd Klasz is still perfecting his art of mixing,
while pushing himself to newer levels. KidD KlasZ is currently experimenting
mixing Chicago/LA Style Hard House using four turntables at once. He doesn't like to take his time
when mixing or blending tracks, so he often unknowingly creates on the spot remixes
using his fast spaced skills. On average he plays up to 50 tracks in one full hour! He is
still exploring music production, and writes music when he can find time during his busy days.
His next goal is to pass his knowledge on to his two sons, who already have a fascination for the
turntables at only ages 2 and 3. klasZ has the knowledge to be a "digital/CD DJ", but finds vinyl
Dj'ing a more true, complex, and rewarding lifestyle. In the distant future he hopes to own
a successful record label company, even while in the dying ages of vinyl records, and vinyl DJ's.
