ABOUT KIDS NEED TO READ
The Kids Need to Read Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt public charity. It was established in August 2007 by children’s author PJ Haarsma and actor Nathan Fillion. Kids Need to Read raises money to buy books through bi-weekly auctions on eBay, which have proven very popular among fans of Firefly/Serenity and science fiction, as well as literacy advocates. A CafePress store selling literacy-themed merchandise items helps to raise additional funds for Kids Need to Read. Various fundraising events lend additional support to the organization. KNTR is supported by a global group of volunteers. Their dream is to get more books into the hands of the children who need them.
OFFICIAL BOOK DONATION LIST
The foundation donates from an official book list that includes a variety of well-reviewed books for preschool to teenaged children. The list was created by a professional children’s book buyer. It is carefully structured to appeal to the most reluctant young readers, but contains material for advanced readers as well. The book selections are based on the appropriateness of the books for the development of reading skills by children of the various age groups indicated on the list.
Whenever possible, unused overstock is purchased with the funds raised by Kids Need to Read, rather than first sale books. These are brand new books, however, the authors and publishers do not receive credit for sales on overstock. Since royalties are not paid on these books, Kids Need to Read’s donation dollars buy more books for children.

HELPING LIBRARIES AND SCHOOLS
Kids Need to Read is here to help. If you’d like to send us information about a library, school, or other institution that could benefit from our book donations, please submit their name at the Kids Need to Read website.
KIDS NEED TO READ AUCTIONS
A major fundraising avenue for Kids Need to Read is our bi-weekly auctions. We have auctioned everything from character-inspired jewelry to autographed sci-fi memorabilia.
If you have something you would like to donate, please let us know! We are always accepting donations.

MICHAEL'S BOOK BYTES
Kids Need to Read’s youngest volunteer is 12-year-old Michael. He came to us through his interest in PJ Haarsma's books and online game. His enthusiasm for reading is infectious. Not one to just sit around chatting, Michael asked to be put to work immediately.
We hope you will stop by occasionally to enjoy Michael’s Book Bytes. Nothing is better than chocolate...but this almost is!

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog DVD was released to (non-Amazon) retailers Tuesday. Best Buy brick and mortar stores have it. Anyone seen it elsewhere?
I checked one Target and one Wal-Mart. No luck. It wasn't in the new release section at Best Buy. I found it in the TV section under D. When I left they had one less and there were some in the new release section and the TV section under D. It is a new release...probably just sold out in that section.
Reports coming in Dr. Horrible has also been seen at FYE. According to http://bashinginminds.com , Doc is also available now online at Barnes & Noble, Borders, DeepDiscount.com, Walmart, Best Buy and other retailers. Netflix now has it.
Some places can order it without a shipping charge to their brick and mortar store.
Know anybody in Canada? Doc been seen at HMV and Metro Video.
