KLD 2 Brumbeat Review Now In!
KIDZLIKEDANNY 2 (Dannyboy Music), Matt Tyler’s second compilation of local acts in aid of autistic youngsters, is due for release via Itunes, Napster, Emusic and other download sites from March and, once again, features an eclectic but always interesting variety of names. Other than Aaron Yorke’s opening strummed I Remember The Days and the closing Blue Kids, an unexpected but excellent contribution from veteran country star Raymond Froggatt, as far as I can tell most of these are generally previously unreleased tracks.Politcial alt-ska outfit Cracked Actors are on fiery form with Captive nestling in complete contrast alongside Take And Give from Bloxwich acoustic singer-songwriter Caroline 7 which in turn gives way to the old school bluesy pub rock of Crisis Blues Band with Truth And Lies. Everett come from Dudley with their Sit And Listen bearing witness to their Snow Patrol influences, Close Your Eyes is from Leicester folkie Ian Babington, Kristy Gallacher sings Broken Record Player and sounds like Coventry’s answer to Kate Nash.
A more familiar name, Matt Geary has been around a while winning admirers for his Elliot Smith/Dylan influenced indie alt-folk. Recently signed to Boy Wonder Records, he has a new album in the works for later this year, meanwhile his 2006 track Temperance gets an Andy Wickett remix. I have no idea who Mavoxor are but The Man Who Wants Everything is very much prog-folk in a good way. Onion Child is Kidderminster singer-songwriter Ryan Jordan who numbers Robert Johnson, Charlie Parker, John Martyn and The Bluetones among his influences, and gives good acoustic blues on The Bailiff while Stourbridge’s Raging Angel are, as the name might suggest, a rock outfit whose Hole In The Head is pretty standard stuff for the blues metal genre. Which just leaves Stranger Within, seemingly a hitherto unrecorded track from local Celtic folklore veterans Quill.
Not everything is going to appeal to everyone, but there’s more than enough here to repay the purchase, and it’s for a good cause.

The charity 'Kidzlikedanny' was formed in January 1997. It was started by Lin and Dave Lloyd, parents of Daniel Lloyd with the help of brothers Matt Tyler (Matthew Lloyd) and Jacob Lloyd.
Daniel was born on the 2nd of December 1987 at City Hospital, Birmingham, and is autistic.
A total of over £15,500.00 has been raised by the Kidzlikedanny charity so far. Organisations who have benefited from KLD are Baskerville Special School (Birmingham), Gorse Farm Residential Home (Marston Green), Uffculme Special School (Birmingham), Longmoor Special School, The Pines, The Birmingham Centre For Arts and Therapies, and The Northern Support Group, Poplars Residential Home and many more.....
The money is used to purchase specialised equipment or items not covered in the school or organisations normal budget. Sometimes the money is used to fund trips out, for families with autistic children. The cost of these days out can be quite expensive, as much manpower is very often needed.
The money was initially raised by way of an annual concert/show. Starting from the humble beggining of The Holy Name Parish Centre, Birmingham and ultimately a regular fixture at The Crescent Theatre, Brindley Place in Birmingham.
Whilst the fund raising never stopped the shows ceased as of 2005 for a number of reasons. However, we are delighted to say that 2008 will see the return of Kidzlikedanny the live event and it will be our 8th show. It will be held where it all began at The Holy name Parish Centre, Birmingham Road, Great Barr, B42.
Artists continually show huge generously offering their services for free at the live events. Amongst those having performed in the past are Radio DJ and personality Malcolm Boydon, Irish Folk star Mick Feeney, Cecil Foster(Stars In Their Eyes' Finalist Luther Vandross) The Odd Sod’s, Dave Jake, Mike Dolphin, Crisis Blues Band, The Soulistics, Claret, Malcolm Boyden, Jake Lloyd, Matt Tyler, Perry Bennett, The Rogues Gallery, Matt Tyler, Rachel Wayne, The Corridors, Montana Spirit, Dazlyn and Cats Whiskers, The Streetly Youth Ochestra to mention but a few.
At each show there is a raffle and an auction of donations made by generous individuals and businesses.
Most recently "Kidzlikedanny" has turned its hand to CD's and Digital downloads to generate more funds in the absence of a live event. All releases are on Dannyboy Records.
Last years efoort Kidzlikedanny (1), is on sale at all good digital music stores including iTunes, Napster, eMusic etc... So please check it out! You will be donating to a good cause as well as purchasing some quality music from local up and coming bands and artists.
All arists on the CD's donate a track and all its proceeds from the CD sales and digital sales to the Kidzlikedanny funds.
