The specificity and at the same time the diversity of the label is mainly due to the personality of its label manager.
Before becoming a manager, Mickaël aka Dj Faster Jay his a creative artist.
At the beginning of the 80's he started djing and collecting everything related to black music ( jazz, soul, funk, gospel, latin, hip hop…).He won the French Championship of hip hop DJs three times and has been world vice-champion with the famous DJ Crazy B (Birdy Nam Nam) two times.
It was such a passion that in 1985 he opened one of the first dedicated to vinyl shop “sound of music”, wich was a reference at its time.
He has now a massive collection of vinyl full of treasures ( from Herbie Hancock, Magnum, Nathan Davis, Daniel Janin, Minnie Riperton or famous labels like Riverside, Soul, Atlantic, Black jazz etc…)
As a DJ (Faster Jay) and a compositor, he joins hip hop bands like New Generation MC's (compilation "rapattitude" in 1989) and Alliance Ethnik, with which he will know a huge success.
Signed in 1990 by Virgin Alliance Ethnik ‘s albums went from gold to platine and won the French music award for the best group of the year 1995. It will be for Mike the opportunity to work with the famous sound engineer Bob Powers and some famous other artists like Vinia Mojica, Common Sense, Rahzel from The Roots, Biz Markie, De La Soul or Youssou'n Dour.
In 1996 he created the music label KIF Records.
Strengthened by his experience he signed some astonishing artist coming from different music families.
Quickly the success arrived. Famous artist like Tankilou, Pepe Bradock, Svinkels, Scénario Rock, Crazy B, Guts le Bienheureux, Dj Pone, Birdy Nam Nam, Jazz Liberatorz, Big Red, Drum Brothers, Modonut "Mister Modo & Ugly mac beer", Trouble Men, Melomaniac, Dj Fudge, Dj Netik, Buzzburglarz have trust in the label's manager talent. They even ask him some remix or collaboration. This gives to the label its credit all around the world.
Artists of the label are now present on different mixed album all over the world.
Many new artists have now joined the label to develop their artistic project with Mike's support.
Despite of all his work, Mike is still finding time to compose and produce tracks for many artists like China, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Big Red, Youssou n’ Dour, Raggasonic, Jololi, De la soul, Common, Biz Markie etc…
Aside running his label for 13 years, he's preparing his own album,
which is multi-influenced...
