Music
You know you’re a music major when...
..You try to talk to your non-music major friends about your classes but you give up because they just don't understand
..You had to convince your parents that your life would be ok if you majored in music instead of business
..You're pretty sure you're probably going to be kind of broke for the rest of your life because you majored in something you actually liked
..You’ve ever had to sing to yourself in class to understand the point the teacher was trying to make
..Someone’s cell phone goes off in class and people try to name the interval, including the professor
..You're pretty sure it's going to take you more than four years to graduate college
..Everybody in your department knows everyone else, if not by name then at least by face and instrument
..You’ve ever turned down a good time because you had to practice
..You actually know what “juries" mean, and no, it has nothing to do with the law
..Recital attendance credit will be the death of you
..You actually have some classical music and show tunes on your iPod
..You know the difference in between baroque, classical, and romantic music, and that Beethoven did not write all three
..You know the beauty of manuscript of paper, one packet can last you for years
..Your reputation has become defined by your instrument or voice part
..You understand there is a silent war between the vocalists and the instrumentalists
..You spend more time in a practice room than in your bedroom
..You're taking 14 units, but 10 classes
..Your classes are randomly interrupted by the sound of someone loudly practicing down the hallway
..Someone says the words “sight-singing and ear training" and you feel a sudden urge to cry
..Even if you try to stay under the radar, most of the professors in your department actually know who you are
..You have more than one class with the same professor on the same day
..You've ever turned a pop song into an opera or classical piece
..You feel like less of a musican just because you'll be getting a B.A. in Music instead of a B.M. in whatever
..You understood what that just meant
..Sometimes you pretty much hate making music, but it's such a part of you that you know you're not changing your major
..You’ve ever gotten dressed, slept, or eaten in the music building
..You could consider the music building as one of your residencies
..You keep catching yourself randomly conducting music, even if it's "Money Maker" or "Bye Bye Bye"
..Meter changes in pop music make you cheer
..You even realize a pop song just had a meter change
Heroes
one voice can change a room
and if one voice can change a room
then it can change a city.
and if it can change a city
it can change a state.
and if it change a state
it can change a nation.
and if it can change a nation it can change the world.
Under Bridges - Brave Saint Saturn
yesterday while walking
beneath an overpass,
I saw the figure of Jesus
standing barefoot on broken glass.
his beard was graying
the smell of urine filled the air
asking if I had some change..
anything that I could spare.
emaciated
his shaking fists balled up
influenza and pneumonia,
begging God to take his cup.
so different from his pictures
breathing air through yellowed tubes
Jesus Christ dying of AIDS
can look right through you
and all have hated
crucified and walked away.
the savior of the prostitutes,
drunkards, rapists, and the gays.
under bridges
with hands raised
from the ghettos they praise his name.
broke and crippled in the dark of night
raise your voices to Jesus Christ
Hallelujah.
wow that so awsome. iwish i could do stuff like that...
but my goal for sophmore is just to apply my self. im hoping to get good grades and am on the schook academic decathlon team... so my intrests are a little different this year. lol and i got my license
haha, yes i remember all of those. and the other day i looked under my bed and i saw that binder with the bright yellow paper, and for some reason i was like "i should mail that to kristen and see what she says"
so i have a question for you, being christmas and all, well technically its over now, but did you start or end any relationships this year? i know that was a trend.
hi kristen! how are you? how is college? i am good, a bit overwhelmed by the workload that is AP, but i signed up for it hence i cant complain... lol! but other than that, sr. year is great so far! i'm still tryin to grasp the idea of "big head honchos on campus" lol... but im sure it will come with time! haha
As for college, I am starting the application process. I am applyin to Duke, Stanford, UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UNC, USC, La Verne, san diego state, and ASUZA PACIFIC... I am so excited for college. however, at the same time I want to enjoy the last year at OC...
anyways, enough talkin about me!! tell me about you and your life. Jason told me that you went to Vietnam again. How was that?
Well its an actual class so we're learning the foundations to all four areas (Reading, writing, speaking and listening) So far writing is most of what we're doing with a little bit of speaking. Its fun though. Its awesome on many different levels. Itss a way of communication but at the same time its an art.
Peace corps is hard to get into and its a mandatory two year commitment. Which I'm not so sure I'd want to commit myself to just yet, but right now thats where I'm headed.
Haha cool, I can see you as a team leader. After I graduate I'll be back in CA and CBU is always short on team leaders so I'm thinking I'd like to lead a China trip, I'm also thinking about joining the peace corps or something like that where I can teach english/business skills, primarily because it looks amazing on grad school applications but yeah...I'm also taking Chinese so thats working out amazing too.
