Alot of folk music bands, especially the Michael McGoldrick Band, Flook, Daimh, Shooglenifty, Fiddlers Bid, Chris Stout Quintet, Croft No. Five, and Box Club, but also a variety of world and jazz music.
Sounds Like
Just listen.
400g self-raising clarsachs,
200g bicarbonate of saxophone,
1/2 a cup of fiddle,
2 tbsp bass and guitars,
1/4 lb of drums,
A pinch of percussion.
Bake for a year and a half at room temperature, and Kilairum is what you get.
Kilairum are a contemporary folk-fusion band, incorporating both jazz and traditional styles into our music.
The band was formed in 2007 at St. Mary's Music School, Edinburgh and since then has gone from strength to strength, performing at various venues in and around the Central Belt. At a gig in Edinburgh's Queens Hall they were described by the Scotsman Newspaper as 'slick showstoppers in their own right'.
We use traditional instruments such as clarsach and fiddle, and add to them more modern instruments - electric bass, drums and saxophone to produce a unique sound from different textures, techniques and styles
We have just recorded a few more tracks and have added them to our page. Many thanks to Dave at Bootcamp Recordings for the fantastic recording.
We would also like to thank our school, St. Mary's Music School in Edinburgh for supporting us so much. We are very grateful for all the help. There would be no Kilairum without them.
Tapadh leat Ailein airson an clar agaibh a chuir thugam. Tha mi dol dha chluiche air Caithream Ciuil an duigh. Math bhitheas sibh a deanamh consairts aig am sam bith, lig fios agus sgaoilidh sinn a fios air RNG.
Hi, just wanted to say thank you to Emily and Mairi for playing at our wedding the other week, you guys were brilliant and everyone was really impressed. I especially loved hearing Orkney Wedding with Sunrise - I've wanted to have that at my wedding since I was a kid! Thanks again and hope to see you perform again in future.
hey guys, I'm putting on a couple of concerts in St Johns, Forfar in July - August, so far I'm doing a recital, as is Callum Dewar, and possibly got a string quartet from RNCM giving a recital also, just wondering you Kilairum would fancy doing a recital also? It's paid, if you're interested then let me know. All of the concerts take place on a saterday evening, so we could discuss dates if are interested.
Recently we finished making us some posters that we can use as advertisment for the band. We were wondering if you could print off a couple from our myspace site and put them up in any folk clubs/areas you know of. It's all about raising page views and getting our name out! You can print them if you click on view Clockwork's pictures, just underneath our profile picutre.
We would realllly appreciate it even if you just printed one! Any publicity is good, and what with your quite high gig count, it's even better! Thanks for helping this young band get out there!
