HOOLIGANS ON E
When Kill City, electro-rock noise mongers, burst onto the music scene in 2002 on Alan McGees Poptones label, few would have thought it would take a full two years before they made their major breakthrough. And with the July 2004 release of their third 45 Bruce Lee that was precisely what Kill City were poised to do. Toning down their natural electronic punk leanings to three minutes of pitch-perfect pop, Bruce Lee is set to Kung-fu kick its way into the collective consciousness. Enter the dragons indeed....
Formed around the nucleus of Lisa Moorish (vocals) and one of the original members, Pete Jones (bass guitar), the original five-piece Kill City were releasing debut ep New York and touring with The Libertines within a mere three months of forming. Live favorite Strychnine was released in the summer to critical acclaim but it wouldnt be until some six months later, at the start of 2004 that the definitive, essential KillCity would be re-born at their spiritual home The Notting Hill Arts Club. For the first time Londons hop young cognoscenti would witness Kill City as they were truly intended: rocking like bastards to an electronic back-beat.
Already a favorite of 6Musics Steve Lamacq, Radio 1s Zane Lowe and numerous XFM jocks, Kill City took their televisual bow in May with a blistering performance of the Andrew Innes (Primal Scream) remixed White Boy, Brown Girl on
E4 s What Sadie Did Next . Kill City have been picking up fans such as the Libertines with their latest track Hooligans On E, a gem of electronic punk written by Pete jones and pete Doherty. Lisa is currently writing and recording new material for a second KillCity album, with Grime/Grinde star STATIK, and Producer SUICIDE DOGZ...the next album promises to be true to killcity's electronica/punky/pop roots...
Heard that new Prodigy album? Overblown, egotistical, short on laughs: it's yet more proof that the last century's electro-rock pioneers are fast turning into this decade's millionaire prog rockers, raging against the dying of the light(sticks).Kill City's Lisa Moorish knows this. As mother to children by both Liam Gallagher and Pete Doherty, as well as being partial to the odd Horlicks with Primal Scream, she is both a tabloid wet dream and indie princess from the royal bloodline and, as a result, a curious authority is stamped across 'White Boys Brown Girl''s grimy grooves. If early single 'Strychnine' scowls like a slaughtered Von Bondies two-stepping with [a][/a] and an Andrew Innes remix of the title track conjures up visions of a cosy night in with Royal Trux, unstrung tracks like 'Tis A Pity She's A Whore' and 'New York In My Pocket' tell you all you need to know about the mental high-wire Kill City balance upon. Both utterly contemporary and dirty enough to make you feel you need a long soak in the bath afterwards.
Camden Council have given the go ahead for the wrecking balls to go in and destroy Stables Market in Camden.
This means the end of The Proud Galleries (served notice closing in a couple of weeks), the funky, vintage stores, Cyberdog, The Cuban Bar etc - you get the gist - one of the best things in all of London is about to be taken away from us.
What are they putting in it place? Boots, H&M and Topshop. I'm sorry to those who like these stores, i like em too, but that is just not the place for them.
PLEASE help us stop them from doing this by signing the petition:
