Killer Instinct is a musical group that fuses the techniques of Punk rock, Pop-Punk, Metal, Gangsta Rap and Hard Rock. The band is often referred to as "punk-metal" or even rapcore. These two terms could also be used as genres referring to the more punk and rhythmic-oriented styles pursued by the band. Killer Instinct became a band in early 2008, when the members discovered their enthusiasm about music in school. The band started out as a rap-metal group, but have since evolved past such a genre without losing hold of their roots. Early in the bands career they parted ways with original vocalist Ricardo Z before guitarist Nick Warsaw stepped up to take on vocals & guitar work. Ricardo has since re-joined the band as drummer. Killer Instinct combines interesting riffage and grooving basslines with catchy vocals and lyrical content for a truly unique musical experience.
Killer Instinct's has released a compilation of demos in the past. They are currently re-working these demos as well as writing new songs. Bassist Billy K says "Our writing skills just seem to get better and better with time. I think people are really going to be surprised at the skill and musicianship that is going into some of these new songs".
The band has built up a local following based on solely on word of mouth as their only means of promotion. "The band would always be handing out demos and putting up flyers in school, and getting people psyched" says fan Tom F. The band started out their entrance into the world of public performance by playing house shows and parties. Drummer Ricardo says "We wanted to start off playing house shows, because we wanted to get people interested on a personal level, and we wanted to really get our performance skills to their best before really debuting ourselves".
The band made their debut to a welcoming crowd at The Vibe Lounge in Rockville Center, NY on 7/17/09 w/ Weekend FM. Killer Instinct still plays many outdoor parties, as well as other clubs such as Bongo's Nightclub in Mineola. Immediately following the bands 8/30/09 Mineola show, the band decided to take an extended hiatus, due to general tension, insecurity regarding musical direction, the want to pursue other projects, and the general lack of free time from everyone involved. Nick went on to say "We could play tons of shows like we used to, but its all a matter of time. We plan to blow up the spot with some of the new, heavy shit we've written; keep your eyes peeled. "
The band has managed to rack up an amazing 43,788 profile views and 82,097 total song plays in the span of 2 years, from the support of local fans. The numbers make it obvious that the band will definitely be able to cement themselves into the Long Island scene when they return.
