Trumpeter Bob Harvey, Reed man James Isaac, and the rhythm section of Chris Lewis on piano, Dave Luvin on bass, drummer Todd Crookston and special guest vocalist David Basse.
Let’s make a long story short. Five musicians got together, and recorded a CD. Never mind years of practice, playing in bands that you didn’t whole heartedly put yourself into and teaching young folks to play. Never mind the last 20 years of hard labor for each of the members of the new band “Killer Strayhorn.”
We hear this stuff all of the time in music. Out of the blue, there comes this perfectly formed Cinderella like artist that is capturing the hearts of all listeners everywhere. Yes, Killer Strayhorn has worked hard to perfect this effortless magic trick titled “Long Story Short.” Yes there is a man of two behind the curtain. But pay no attention to all of that! Just let these five solid musicians transport you (for a short period of time) into their world. It’s a world where straight ahead jazz meets the whimsical world of a killer group of composers and arrangers. It’s straight ahead music for the twenty first century. It’s music that’s well, “killer.”
The members of the band are trumpeter Bob Harvey, reed man James Isaac, and the rhythm section of Chris Lewis on piano, Dave Luvin on bass and drummer Todd Crookston. Special guest vocalist David Basse is on board for several numbers on the debut disc "Long Story Short".
Enjoy the music!
