KIMBERLY MICHAELS is an artist on an exceptional journey. She's a versatile singer who delivers naked soul & honesty delivered with an intoxicating soulful. She's on a unique lifelong journey down an artist's path that could only be hers.
Born halfway around the world in Seoul, South Korea, as Park Sung Hee, this adopted Korean became a native Minnesotan at 6-months old. In Minnetonka, music entered Kimberly's life early in her childhood. She began her classical training in piano at age four. And over time, Kimberly earned her way into Opera, R&B, and Pop societies.
On a break from college, she worked on several road tours and excursions. She wrote & recorded on many projects for hire, while working at a small record label in West Hollywood, where she lived for four years.
One of Kimberly's producers in LA was Wayne Vaughn (Earth, Wind & Fire), married to Wanda Vaughn (The Emotions). Wayne wrote 'Let's Groove Tonight', 'All the Way', 'The Speed of Love', & 'Sweet Sassy Lady', and toured for years with EW&F.
Other world-renown artists Kimberly's worked with: Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Sheila Raye Charles (Ray Charles daughter), Ebony Taye, Vince Davis (Miles Davis' son), The DeBarges, Cherelle, Alexander O'Neal & Benji Vereen, to name a few. She's also opened for Karen White & Lionel Richie.
Today, The Kimberly Michaels Band and KM Jazz allows her to express her true vocal passions with such influences as Dianne Reeves, Maysa Leak (Incognito), Sade, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Nora Jones, Lalah Hathaway & Aretha Franklin.
Kimberly's a busy Vocalist in & out of the Twin Cities. She's currently working on her Independent Solo Album under the direction of Tony Axtell (Axtell Production). People. People Listen up please! After listening to a true hip hop GOD: “KRS-ONE”, I remove myself from all prior beefs that I’ve started or participated in and I hope that my once foes would overstand where I’m coming from. I feel I cannot truly represent Minnesota by speaking unkindly about another Minnesota Warrior. Because in the in us all are in the same war: To put Minnesota on the map. I overstand that we all need a little tweaking to perfect our crafts. So I’m reaching out my hand and offering my help to all that will accept it so that we can stay on our mission. I cannot change what happened in the past, but I can help make a better future. I know that I myself have a lot growing to do in this business, and I know I will also need help from the pioneers of the Minnesota Music Scene. I wouldn’t want to be turned around because of my arrogance or my ego. I say again I know that I’m not the machine but only a tool to help Minnesota get heard. Hopefully, Things can be resolved and we can move forward.
The worst promoter’s trophy goes to: (drum roll) Cool Tray of Gladiator record!
I’ve been to a lot of well organized show thru out the cities, but Cool Tray Shows takes the cake. Every show that I’ve attended that had his name on it has been a train wreck. Even with the help of Big Reece of The B-96 Beatmasters, The bottom of Cool Tray’s shows has always found away to fall out. 90% of the time Cool Tray is outside jaw japing instead of running his shows. I say why would you what to support or even think of bringing people or your good friends to a Red Sea Function? You will not be seen by anyone of importance there from the music business. Cool Tray makes fake misleading promotional incentives to get you to attend his function like this one:
