My name is Kimber Sparks. I reckon most would say I'm quite a sassy chic, and that I love my country music! I'm a hillbilly, and that ain't gonna change, either ;) Now that we've got that out of the way, I'm a singer who grew up in SWEET HOME ALABAMA, on Buttercup Road...a tiny part of the world that's tucked away in the hills. I have some amazing memories of growing up, and music was always part of those memories - which definitely influenced who I am as an artist.
I'm not trying to be like anybody else - just Kimber, and I'm pretty good at that =) I simply want to share my life experiences through my songs. As for why I've chosen a career onstage, I think it's because of something my Grandma used to say to me when I was growing up. She used to tell me, 'You never know when something you say or do might be someone else's saving-grace - when you might be their angel.' I ain't never claimed to be an angel, but I do hope something I say or do will touch people somehow. Plus I'm a 'talker' from way back, and I don't see that changing anytime soon! So, rather than sitting on some random street talking to myself, I reckon singing allows me to do it a bit more gracefully *smiles*
I moved to Australia's Gold Coast to start university in 2001 - New Year's Day to be exact. Yes, they do have universities in America - and no, I was not running from the FBI or anything as exciting =o) The truth is, I just wanted to make a change in my life - and I did exactly that. I didn't know a single soul here, and with two babies (13 mo. & 4 ½ years), I can tell you now, I was some scared and didn't know how the heck I was gonna be able to do it! A year or so after moving to Australia, I was 'discovered' singing at the Great Western Hotel in Rockhampton by Lee Kernaghan (I've sang all my life, though).
Since then, I've released an EP ('GO GET 'EM GIRL 2006) and my debut album ('IT'S HER TURN' 2008). I like sad songs and nobody will ever accuse me of being anything other than 110% country! It's also available on my official website - along with lots of other good stuff. There's some songs on there from the new album, done with one of Australia's most respected musicians - Bill Chambers. It's an exciting time in my career, and I very much look forward to sharing it with yall.
I've been studying non-stop for the past 8 years, and I graduate on August 31st, 2009 with my M.B.A.(YIPEE) to be honest - I'm a bit addicted to learning!!! I fully believe that 'EDUCATION IS EMPOWERMENT'! (I'll preach about it if you get me started! lol)
I guess that's about all. When I finally fulfill all my dreams, I'm gonna buy myself an old mule, some chickens, a goat, tons of pound dogs, and a bird that whistles. I'll put 'em all on a patch of land tucked away in the woods somewhere with a long dirt road, that has a mailbox shaped like an old milk bottle. I'll have speakers in the trees - just like the hillbilly I am, that will play nothing but soppy country music like the Statler Bros., the Possum, Janie Frickie, Vern Gosdin, Merle, Gene Watson, John Conley, Keith Whitley, Waylon, Loretta Lynn, Joe Diffie, Conway, Dolly, Jamey Johnson (LURVE this man lately!) and anything else I get a hankerin' to play. Anyway, there you go - a peak into my past, present and future! (Told ya I was a talker ;) However, I still have a whole bunch to do before I change my address for the last time- so until then, I sure hope you like what you hear.
