"A star is Born! Only 18 and already one of Australia's best guitarists"
Peter Noble (Director of Byron Blues and Roots Festival)
Kim Churchill is an 18 year old centering his playing around ‘experimental acoustic guitar’. His approach is immediately unique and has been recognized already throughout the Australian music scene. Kim’s Finger picking and body percussion begins the array of different sounds, all of which are carefully woven together with the inclusion of heartfelt vocals, driving stomp box and powerful blues harmonica licks. Kim’s music reflects his coastal lifestyle and is driven by his passion for the ocean. In the six months since his completion of high school, Kim has already had a profound impact upon the Australian music scene, sharing the bill with acts such as Xavier Rudd, Ben Harper and John Butler. He has played with Aussie acts including Ash Grunwald, Dallas Frasca, Jeff Lang, Marshall and the Fro and Lloyd Spiegel. He has also been recognized within the folk scene, being named National youth Folk artist of the Year 2009. Kim filled tents at festivals including Byron Bay Blues and Roots festival (where he sold out of copies of his debut album, “offshore roots”), the National Folk Festival, Greenfest and Sapphire Rock 09. if the first six months of his journey is and indication of the future of this young man, we can expect great things. Kim has recently recorded his second album, ‘With Sword and Shield’ which will be released late August.
Kim Churchill is an up an coming blues and roots performer who creates a completely unique sound from his chosen instrument, the guitar. With around 12 years experience including 8 years of classical training, Kim underlines his fiery passionate style of playing with a level of technique and intricacy “has to be seen to be believed” (Merimbula News Weekly). His style includes the use of body percussion, tapping and experimental techniques of his own, and has been likened to guitarists like Michael Hedges, Andy Mckee and Thomas Leeb. Former Australian Ambassador of Blues and premier endorsee for Cole Clarke Guitars, Lloyd Spiegel, believes that “it is Kim’s ability to create new sounds and techniques on the guitar which will lead to make a stamp on the Australian Guitar scene”. This style is then masterfully woven together with his inclusion of stomp box, tambourine, Harmonica and purely heartfelt vocals, creating the blues/roots sound that his major influences (The John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Jeff Lang, Juzzie Smith and the Beautiful Girls) encouraged. This promising 18 year old’s song writing reflects his coastal lifestyle- growing up with the surf minutes from his front door, and the beauty of its untouched nature to inspire and nurture him. Finally, with the inclusion of fiery lap steel slide guitar, and beats that demand foot tappin’ attention, you will left gob smacked!
Since his completion of highgschool, only 6 months ago, his musical abilities have already seen him share the stage with artists like Ash Grunwald, Marshall and the Fro, Andrew Winton, Lloyd Spiegel and Adam Hole. He has also been sighted by festivals such as Byron Bluesfest, The National Folk festival, Sapphire Rock, Illawarra folk festival, and Greenfest, and receives regular radio time from ABC south east, Radio National, as well as many community stations. Kim has just realeased his second album 'With Sword and Shield', which is available at the website.

Hope to see you at a gig in Canberra sometime - I spoke to Jacinta and she said she's not booking for people at the moment but she can send you some names and numbers that should help :) - Annie
