Happy days in Spain! Playing with the Mercenairs...
My name is Kim Mayhew and I am a professional musician and music tutor. I have recently moved to Sheffield after spending 3 years in Spain teaching and performing.
Music Tuition
I offer private music tution on saxophone, clarinet, piano and music theory. I teach people of all ages and cater lessons to the individuals needs, whether it be to take exams, learn how to improvise or just to play for fun. For those wishing to take exams I have experience with ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exams (classical and jazz, Grades 1-8).
If you are interested in private tuition, please email me at mayhew_kim@yahoo.co.uk for more information. I have CRB approval.
I also work for the Sheffield Music Service, teaching clarinet/keyboard in local schools.
I have a music degree in Jazz, Popular and Commercial music (BMus Hons) from Newcastle College (2001).
Performance
I am an experienced saxophonist and enjoy playing a wide range of styles including jazz, soul, funk and blues. I have performed all over the UK and in Southern Spain over the past 10 years with big bands, function bands, at theatres and in holiday camps. I have had the pleasure of supporting Roy Ayres in a club on the south coast and playing at the Larmer Tree festival after Jools Holland (with a New Orleans Funk/Soul band). When Denise Nolan's 'Judy Garland' show came to Spain in 2007, I got the call to play in the band. Perhaps not quite the big time but it was all fun!
Since moving to Sheffield in August 08 I have had the pleasure of performing with the Colin Yates Swing Band and The Floyd Effect, from Cambridge. There are some video clips to the left of the page.
I am a member of the Keith Peters Big Band, the Silver Spectrum Wind Ensemble and Sax Factor, a female saxophone quartet. (See below)
I am available for dep work and am willing to travel (for the right price!) so please get in touch by email.
As publicity becomes available for the new groups it will be posted here. There will be groups suitable for weddings/functions/parties etc all 100% professional and made up of experienced musicians.
